Animals, natural and unnatural, do not classify as a race.
Apoki are beings that exist purely on destruction, they are not in sync with the verse and therefore are not beholden to a race type, though they can be divided into Greater and Lesser, depending on their personal level of power.
High races- high races are generally nigh immortal and cannot be killed in a conventional manner. Rather they get dispersed, a process where catastrophic trauma to their form causes their essence to burst apart and join the either. Unlike dying, when someone is dispersed they can be resurrected given enough time and power accumulated either by their essence in the ether or non dispersed associates. However, the longer they have been dispersed, the harder it becomes to disentangle their essence from the ether safely.
High races are also set apart by the Cosmic class magic system, which enables them the ability to manipulate the underlying structure of the verse. Cosmic class magic can only be accessed by a high race or someone of high race descent, otherwise it will burn out the essence of its user. Those with Cosmic affinities are also the only ones capable of truly harming High Apoki, as it is the only way to damage their essence.
Unlike the other types, most of the high races are nonbiological, and reproduce through an exchange of energy, witch then produces an offspring in a proffered receptacle, witch varies race to race. They can perform this act with the other types, provided the energies are compatible and the offspring doesn't cause catastrophic damage to lower type parent in the process.
Mid races- often descended from a pairing between a high and low race, and were originally classified as the latter until a few thousand years ago. They can be killed like a low race, but can live upwards of a hundred years naturally. They have high ether thresholds but weak focal points, often relying on artificial ones such as charms and artifacts. They are abysmal at ether based majic but excell at physical magic such as Cantrips, Glyphs, Alchemy, or Bedlamancy.
Since the re categorization, any being directly spawned from a high race and another type is considered a mid race, even if they take on only the attributes of one parent.
Low- low races are the shortest lived but also the most versatile. They make up for their inherently fragile link to the ether with the ability to take up over dozen affinities inside their magic system. They are also set apart by the fact that their aura leaves a longer lasting imprint than many high races, to the point where it can damage sensitive materials such as Apollyon Crystals or Stygian Vellium.
Many low races do not actually have a link to the ether, and are therefore magicless.
The low race is the most widespread and diverse race type. Both humanoids and non humanoid beings can and do fall under it.
