You woke to the pale glow of morning light filtering through the curtains. The clock on your nightstand blinked 7:00 AM in soft red digits. With a yawn and a stretch, you peeled yourself from the warmth of your sheets and made your way to the bathroom.
The shower hissed to life, steam curling up the tiled walls as the hot water hit your skin. It was peaceful—briefly. The soothing warmth running over your body offered a moment of serenity...
Until a sharp voice broke the quiet.
"Y/N!" Lucifer's voice echoed from downstairs, loud and urgent.
You shut off the water in a hurry, toweling off with rushed hands, heart skipping a beat. She never yelled like that unless something was wrong.
Still damp, you jogged downstairs, your concern rising. "What? What's wrong? Are you okay?" you asked as you entered the kitchen.
Lucifer stood by the open fridge, holding up... an empty milk carton in one hand and an equally empty egg carton in the other. Her expression was deadpan.
"We're out of food." "...Already?" "Yes. Already."
You exhaled, half amused, half exasperated. "You wanna come with me?"
She gave you a dramatic sigh. "I'd love to, but I'm small and weak... and you're big, and masculi—"
"Sounds to me like you're just lazy." "Elementary, my dear Watson."
You couldn't help the laugh that escaped. She always had a way of making the morning chaos a little more bearable.
Grabbing your coat and slipping into your shoes, you called out, "I'm heading out. Anyone coming?"
From somewhere upstairs, you heard Modeus's quiet voice float down, "I'll come..."
A few minutes later, she appeared—wrapped in her coat, scarf trailing behind her, eyes sleepy but eager. As you stepped outside, the chill of the morning hit your cheeks immediately. Crisp, biting, but invigorating. Modeus clung to your arm, burying her face into your sleeve as you both started walking down the quiet street.
The town was oddly silent—no cars, no dogs barking, just the rustling of dry leaves and the occasional whistle of wind. It felt like the world had paused just for the two of you.
You glanced at her. "Hey, uhh... why'd you come with me today? You usually pass on these early errands."
She hesitated. Her voice was soft. "Because I don't want you to feel like I'm pushing you away... when I never would. I don't want to lose you."
You stopped walking for a moment, gently touching her cheek. "You're not pushing me away, Modeus."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
You leaned down and kissed her forehead. Her cheeks flushed pink, and she tightened her grip around your arm, face turned down in shy embarrassment.
Later, at the grocery store...
The warmth inside was a welcome change. You picked up a basket and started gathering what you needed—milk, eggs, a few essentials. Modeus darted off to grab some snacks and candy. You tossed in a bottle of Smirnoff for Malina—just in case.
Once you'd paid and stepped back outside, a powerful gust of icy wind slammed into you both. The sky had turned a dark grey, clouds thick and heavy with the promise of rain. Modeus wrapped her arms around herself, shivering.
You slowed. She was trembling.
"I-It's s-so c-cold," she stuttered.
"Hold up."
You stopped walking and pulled her close, wrapping your coat around her small frame. Her body slowly stopped shaking as she pressed herself into you.
"You okay?"
"I... I want to stay like this for a little while."
You smiled, resting your chin on her head. She blushed again, but this time didn't look away.
Eventually, she whispered, "Okay... I think I'm ready now."
You released her, taking her hand instead, and together, the two of you braved the wind, walking slowly back home.
Time skip — Back at the house
The moment you opened the front door, a wave of warm air enveloped your frozen limbs. Modeus made a beeline for the couch, leaping onto it with a happy sigh. You hung up your coat and headed into the kitchen, putting away the groceries.
After everything was stowed away, you climbed the stairs and flopped into your bed, letting yourself melt into the mattress.
Then—a gentle knock.
You turned your head. Modeus peeked in through the door, holding the edge of the frame with both hands. "Hey... can I come in?" "Of course."
She tiptoed inside and laid on her side facing you. Her arm reached out but fell short of wrapping around you, so you pulled her into a hug instead.
Your legs tangled together beneath the blankets. You pressed a kiss to her forehead, and she buried herself into your neck.
Outside, rain had started tapping gently against the windows. Inside, you both drifted off slowly, wrapped in each other's warmth.
