This next story is gonna have a few new characters, and I'm curious what you think of them! Anyways, merry Christmas, happy holidays, and happy New Year!

Crimson woke up with a start. Is it really today? Is today really that day? She checked her phone to make sure this wasn't a dream, or that she somehow got the date wrong. As she read the screen, she smiled.
Today was the day.
Jumping up from her bed in excitement, Crimson quickly pulled on a hoodie, as her room was absolutely freezing in the morning, despite all of her complaining. Every time she would turn it up, her brother would complain about it being too hot (as that one thermostat controlled the temperature in both their rooms). She ran into her bathroom and quickly brushed her hair, and then she was running down the stairs and into the living room.
"Seems like the little candlestick is finally awake," came a voice from behind her. "Along with the entire house, most likely. You sound like an elephant stomping around up there."
Crimson huffed and turned around, glaring at her brother. "It's not like I'm any louder than you are, Blayze. Right, Hoshi?" She turned and faced the border collie, who had woken up and came to see what all the commotion was.
"Yeah, there's no way anyone could be louder than him," replied Hoshi. Neither Crimson nor Blayze thought it odd that the dog could speak, as he was a half fire spirit, even when he wasn't in his "true" form, so to speak.
Crimson gazed triumphantly at her brother before turning back around to face the tree. She quickly dove towards the presents under it, digging through the pile to find the ones addressed to her. Before she could start to open them, however, her brother knocked over her pile.
Seeing the murderous look on her face, he quickly clarified why he had committed the crime of blocking Crimson from her presents. "You don't get your presents until you've had something to eat," he said, dragging her towards the kitchen.
Despite herself, Crimson succumbed to Blayze's wishes, if only because she had realized how hungry she was. When she got to the kitchen, she gasped. "When did you have time to make all this?" She asked her brother, amazed at the sheer amount of food on the counters.
Blaze grinned. "Surprisingly enough, I had help." When Crimson just looked plain confused at this, he added, "From that mutt, as well."
"Hey! I am not a mutt!" Hoshi protested, indignant. "I am a fire spirit!""A half fire spirit," Blayze said, just to make the dog mad. Those two had never gotten along that well, despite Crimson's best efforts.
"Oh! Hoshi, look! There's even some steak for you!" Crimson quickly got a plate, put an ample amount of steak on it, and placed it in front of the fuming border collie, before he could get even more mad and change into his other form.
"Of course there's steak, I made it," Hoshi muttered under his breath, before starting to devour the meat in front of him. Pleased with her work, Crimson grabbed a plate and helped herself to the assortment of delicious looking food in front of her.
As she sat down at the table, she glanced over at a picture that hung on the wall, looking over the table. It was a portrait of her family, from quite a few years ago. Crimson wished her parents were around more often, instead of going on all of their "business trips". "When are Mom and Dad gonna be home?" She asked her brother, who just rolled his eyes before answering.
"Next month, if something doesn't come up." He was obviously annoyed. Crimson knew that Blayze didn't get along well with their parents, probably because they didn't approve of him being a knight. She also knew that he had gone ahead and become one despite this.
"I wish they didn't go on so many business trips," Crimson said. Her brother just snorted. They both knew that the term "business trips" was an excuse for them continuously ignoring their children. But Crimson shoved her disappointment to the bottom of her stomach, determined not to let her parents, or rather, the absence of her parents, spoil her good mood.
When she had finished shoveling the food into her mouth, she quickly brought her plate to the sink and ran off back towards the living room, Hoshi at her heels. Blayze followed afterwards, at a slower pace.
Soon they were all unwrapping their gifts and laughing. They laughed especially hard as Hoshi struggled to open his own gifts. Even as her older brother teased her, Crimson was in a good mood. Later that day, when she went out to take Hoshi for a walk, it seemed like everyone was in a good mood. Why shouldn't they be? It was Christmas, after all!
