My heart beat fast. Love is a funny thing, one minute you think you love someone, and the next you realize you love someone else. You believe for your entire life who you'll end up with but you turn out to be so so so wrong. Love stands for so many things, and I was about to find out who I was. Who I would be, and who would share it with me.

I took Merida's hand. I stared deep into her bright blue eyes, and she looked back into my soul. I poured out my heart in my eyes, I let her see every little bit. Or at least that's what I tried to do. However, when surrounded by my entire village, I couldn't spill my inner feelings there. I wasn't about to let all these people judge me for what I was about to say.

So, I pulled her through the crowd and dragged her to Toothless. "Wha- what's going on?" Merida insisted

"We are going for a ride." I say confidently. She shrugged and climbed onto my dragon's back. She slung her hands around my waist, and Toothless took to the sky. The sun had just started to set, and the sky was a beautiful symphony. I switched a few gears, and the three of us landed on an island. This was an island me and Merida knew so well. During our 2 years together, we would visit the island whenever stress caught up to us.

Whenever we couldn't handle the expectations, or life was too complicated, we would come and talk. I figured this would be the perfect place. I dismounted and offered my hand to her. Surprisingly, Merida took my hand. I smiled, usually she rolled her eyes and dismounted but she seemed content with the seemingly girlish behavior.

I led her to a tree where we leaned against the tree. I sat in front of her, and looked into her eyes. This was one of the many reasons I loved her. She was spontaneous, she loved adventure, she would jump on a dragon and ride anywhere anytime. She would forget and drop everything, and come with me on a whim.

I thought back to 2 years ago, when Merida first came and became my friend. My father had just died and he had connections with the king of a Scotland clan. His family came to visit, and Merida and I met. We immediately became fast friends, much to the suprise of everyone else.

Eventually, we started becoming more than friends. Merida had been reluctant at first, she was against marriage and love. As much as I had been able to figure back then, she was afraid of commitment. I had done my best to change that, which I did. It was the only thing I was afraid of now.

I was afraid she couldn't commit. I was 22 now and Merida was 21. I didn't want to wait longer, I was ready to marry her. I took her hand "Merida, I"

She didn't let me finish. She moved and closed the gap between us. She placed her lips on mine and kissed me. She held my hands and leaned into me, content to show affection. She pulled away and smiled "yes". I stared at her for a moment "Wha-" I stammered confused. I hadn't even asked her yet.

"Hiccup, Aye said yes" she laughed "your supposed to kiss me and go insane, yes" I grinned and asked slyly "Yes to what Mer?" I figured she would say yes, and avoid completely admitting it. She sighed. "Aye.... Aye will marry you Hiccup Horrendes Haddock the Third. "

I grinned and kissed her nose "good". And I realized it was. It didn't matter what my mother thought. Or my clan, I was Chief after all. And even though Merida was a princess, I didn't care. She didn't either, maybe everything would turn out fine. Everything would turn out fine. I had to believe this, or we couldn't figure this out. And I had to make this work, or I'd never forgive myself.

So after a few more kisses, I pulled her back onto my, our dragon. We sailed off on Toothless into the unknown. Waiting for judgement, and any other trials we may face. And I smiled, because Merida would always be beside me.

I know it's short. I'm sorry.
