"Doctor! There is an emergency, a road accident took place and the injured has lost a lot of blood. We have to operate him as soon as we can," The intern spoke all in one go.

"Ah alright, who did the primary check-up?" You asked as you sauntered off to the closet to get your apron and such.

"Dr. Kwon did," He replied.

"Okay, ask her to assist me. Get the theatre ready as quickly as possible. I will go and have a look at his vitals."

Without waiting for the intern, you briskly walked off to where the accident victim is. It wasn't rare for you, after all you were an ER surgeon. But road accidents were a rarity in this part of the city.

You looked at the injured man lying on a hospital bed through the glass door. He had the life supporting systems on and you could see even from the outside how much he was struggling to breath. The nurse informed you about his vitals, and you deduced if not operated right away there will be very less chance of his survival. You learned that he was the only one injured in the accident, and it was a case of drunken driving. The police are going to create a mess once they are here, you thought.

The whole four and half hours in the operation theatre went by in pin-drop silence, leave for the sounds of the machines beeping and the clinking of the medical apparatus against the metal plates.

You sighed as you left the theatre with a small smile gracing on your lips. The man, Park Jimin was his name, was safe for now. He was stable enough and there was no danger to his life. The internal bleeding had reduced to a much larger extent and you were glad at how things turned out in his favor.

In all your haste, you failed to notice how the three stripes in your wrist had changed their color to an ominous black.

You reached home and plopped down on your cozy sofa, sighing delightfully as you sink in the soft material. You closed your eyes for a moment before wanting to take a warm shower to release the stress of the day. Once you were done showering and were drying yourself, your eyes landed on the three contrasting stripes of black against your pale skin.

Your heart sank. This could mean only one thing and that is you lost your soulmate even before having met him just for once in your life. You swore that they were the usual red the last time you saw, meaning that your soulmate was doing just fine. But all of a sudden they were black. A stray tear made its way down your cheeks and before you knew it, you were bawling your eyes out. You couldn't think of anything else besides that you were actually cursed.

You remember when your sister came pounding at your bedroom at mid-night when you were younger. She didn't know what was happening and as to why her soulmate markings were black all of a sudden. Your parents were out for work and it took you long enough to calm your sister who was full on shaking with hysteria.

Your parents returned the very next day, abandoning their business trip to console their eldest daughter and with heavy hearts, explain how her soulmate was no more alive. Your brother, your sister's twin, who was studying abroad took the first flight home and didn't return for a good measure of time until his exams were 'round the corner. Your sister became numb after the news was broken to her, and so were you. You were so young and you had no idea why she was crying for someone she had never met. It shouldn't matter anything to her, right? But seeing her sad made you sad.

Your sister couldn't take it anymore. She killed herself. She told you just one thing before leaving you alone forever, sorry.

You were mad at her for taking such a drastic step, for doing what she did. Did you or your family not matter to her anymore? Did someone whose existence was practically unknown to your sister suddenly became more important to her than the people who had known her for their whole life and loved her unconditionally? You came to terms with it eventually once you put yourself in her shoes.
