Open fields are lovely.
They're clear, concise, and have nothing to hide
They're inviting, but intimidating and lonely.
There's no shade; nowhere to hide;
To take shelter.
Just tall grass and the shining sun.

Maybe that's how people are too.
People are afraid of openness.
There are no secrets that provide shade,
No lies where you can take shelter,
No untold feelings to hide in.

Too afraid to get burned, we keep things to ourselves.
So maybe that way, we can learn who our secrets make us,
Before anyone else can decide.

And maybe one day, we'll be able to lay down in the grass and soak up the sun.
Because perhaps, in a place that vast,
That open,
We won't be able to feel the depth of our own aloneness
