When you awoke you were in a bed in an apartment you recognized as one in your own complex, although you weren't quite sure who's it was. All you knew is that your entire body was sore and you wished that you couldn't remember why. But you did. You remembered how it felt when your ex boyfriend (you'd mentally decided to break up with him) decided it was okay to physically tear into you on false pretenses.
Now you were all alone, scared in some strange apartment you didn't recognize. It was all too much, you let yourself begin to cry as you became overwhelmed with emotion and let the tears flow freely as you'd wished for a better boyfriend, a better life. Then out of nowhere came the most beautiful man you'd ever seen. With a stubbled jawline you couldn't help but want to reach out and touch.
"Hey now, it's okay." He whispered to you as he took you in his arms and embraced you in the warmest hug you'd ever received from a stranger. You didn't know this man but your intuition had told you that everything was alright and you knew for some reason that you were safe with this man.
You let yourself cry freely and didn't even attempt to stifle the sobs as you gripped onto his shirt for emotional comfort. You let yourself fall slack in his embrace, enjoying the comfort his presence brought as you let yourself cry all of your sadness and all of your worries away in the form of tears.
(Fun fact when the brain produces too much of one emotion in order to keep yourself from sustaining brain damage at the hands of too many fired neurons it cries them out and releases them through your snot and tear which is why you produce both of these things when feeling an overwhelm of any emotion)
He rubbed small circles on your back and rocked you back and forth as you let the last of your tears escape you. You'd never felt physical or emotional comfort like this in your life, and you immediately trusted him.
"You're safe now." An unintentional promise he made to you that you couldn't help but believe.
This man had saved you from the darkest horror your life had ever known and for that you knew that you would be eternally grateful. Jack had been terrorizing you for years and you had tried to escape numerous times after some of his more brutal beatings but he had always somehow tracked you down. No matter how far you ran, or how many times you tried you could never escape his wrath.
Something deep in your subconscious told you that wasn't going to happen again. Though your sobs you begged the man to make a promise.
"Promise me you won't let him get me again, please."
And when you looked up to him, you saw true pain etched deeply into the beautiful man's face and you knew that he truly empathized with your situation. This brought more comfort than you've ever felt in your entire life. Time to simp
"I promise you, I will never let that man lay a finger on you ever again."
And with that he kissed the top of your head and you let yourself go slack in his arms. Now feeling safer than you had in years.
"You can stay here for as long as you'd like, and I mean it. I'd rather share my home you than have you go back to living with an absolute monster."
This made you freeze and tense up- would he really do that for you? There's no way people like this could possibly exist. The level of absolute kindness coming from this mans heart was like nothing you'd ever experienced before and you let yourself begin to cry all over again. This time the tears came from a place of happiness and contentment.
"Thank you- so much."
Was all you could muster. As you let the course of your tears continue you choked out one final question.
"Who are you?"
You couldn't see it but that made him smile.
"My name is Matthew, Matthew Murdoc."
