Hey Katie u coming?
Katie checked her phone and sent back, Yeah, on my way.
Checking out her outfit in the mirror, a crop top and yoga pants because, as her dad always says, "Function over Fashion" and what she was wearing was very comfortable, if not all that fashionable. She put on some sneakers and started her long walk over to the party, because even though she was 16 she had not yet gotten a car.
After 30 minutes, Katie arrived at the party and knocked on the door.
"Hey, where you been?" Answered her friend, Ally, who was the one who had texted her.
"Sorry, I still don't have a car. It's sooooo annoying. How's the party?" She replied while stepping in the door and slipping off her shoes.
"Well, since you asked, it's going GREAT! OMG my first party that my parents actually allowed is going so well. I didn't actually expect so many people to come. It's been kinda hectic actually."
They went in and Katie admired Ally's house, because while her house was super decorated, her own was sparsely decorated, if you could even call it that.
Getting punch(non-alcoholic of course), Katie spotted her crush, Jackson across the room.
Noticing her gaze, Ally saw what, or who she was looking at.
"Oooh, is that your crush?" She said in a sing-song voice.
"No it's not." Katie laughed it off, although the noticeable red spots on her cheeks gave it away.
"You should go talk to him. Come on do it!"
"No, I won't." She blushed again and started to walk away but Ally grabbed her and pushed her towards his general direction while continually teasing her.
"Hey Jackson!" Katie blushed ferociously and turned her head, trying to hide herself from view.
"Jackson! Jackson, this is Katie. Katie, Jackson. Jackson, Katie."
Katie finally stopped trying to hide herself as it was useless and waved meekly at him, praying that he couldn't hear her pounding heart.
"Hi Katie, nice to meet you. You have Spanish with Mr. Williams right?" He shook her hand and then told them he was going to get more punch.
"Yeah, are you in it?"
"Sí, I thought I saw you in there. I'm going to get punch. Adíos!"
"See, that wasn't so hard." Ally said.
"Oh shut up," Katie responded with a playful hit to her shoulder, still blushing from the encounter. Ally laughed at her shyness and told her she was going to get a drink as well.
For the better part of 2 hours, Katie just wandered around and tried to stay out of view, since she didn't really know any of these people and hadn't been to a party before. Luckily, she had the forethought to bring a book and was curled up on one of the couches reading.
"Oh hey, it's you. Katie, right?" Katie looked up from her book to see who was talking to her, it was Jackson.
"Oh, hi-i Jackson. What have you been doing?" She asked, trying to make small talk or have a slight conversation.
"Nothing much, how about you?"
"Well, as you can see I've been reading for pretty much all this time." She blushed when she looked at him and hoped he just took it for the heat of the party.
"Really? That's cool," He dropped into a whisper voice, "I'm a bookworm too."
Katie stared at him shocked, because she had never imagined him to enjoy books, or even anything she liked. He sat down on the couch next to her, making her blush even more.
