He let Evony reach the phone first and walked into the bathroom after her, cornering her. The bathroom was not very big and with both of them inside she felt uncomfortable if not a bit claustrophobic. “Careful, sweetheart, I know more than you think and if you tell her anything it will not end up well.” He stood very close to her, if he did it to intimidate her then it was working. He took her phone letting it ring before handing it back. “Be brief. One mistake and you’ll be watching her die before I begin with you.”
Angry at being powerless she tried to swallow her fear and all she could do was nod. The past hours weighed heavy on her mind and shoulders, the only thing she wanted to do was curl up and go to sleep for a long time. To forget was the one thing she wanted at the moment but it was really hard with Raphael’s cold touch and his eyes burning holes in her head as she turned away to answer the second incoming call.
“Evony!” Amanda was practically shrieking through the phone as she let out a string of questions which Evony couldn’t catch. “I was so worried! You said you’d call me and when you didn’t I thought something happened.”
“Hey, calm down I’m fine at home.” She turned to look at Raphael briefly, Evony believed he would carry out his threat but still she needed a bit of comfort. “Everything is fine and I’m pretty tired, the reading is tough. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” Evony’s voice was rough and she hoped Amanda took it for tired grogginess. The sound of her friend’s voice was warm and familiar everything she was used to and now seemed so distant. Evony didn’t want to hang up but being trapped in such a small space with Raphael had her nerves on end.
Amanda stammered for an answer and if Evony had not been so drained she might have felt bad at being so rude to her. “Alright but we are talking about this tomorrow. Goodnight.” Amanda sounded slightly worried but at least she wasn’t asking more questions to which Evony would have to lie. What she really wanted to do was to quickly get friend to call the police but it would be futile. He wasn’t human and trying to get help would only endanger even more people. Hanging up she turned to him glaring into those black eyes that had turned her world around for the worse in the past few hours. She raised an eyebrow silently challenging him to say anything but he only stepped back letting her out of the trap.
Once outside she felt she could breathe easier and headed toward her room searching for her charger. Everything was a mess, the box had burst open and her things spilled out all over the floor. Checking the time she noticed why she was so exhausted. It was three in the morning and without the adrenaline coursing through her body she felt tired and her chest was burning. He gave her enough space to walk out without touching him as she made her way to the kitchen where everything looked out of place. Her once organized cupboards and drawers were now destroyed and empty. Her whole apartment was upside down, the living room was a wreck from the confrontation, the kitchen had been raided by Raphael and her room was in pieces. Anger flared inside her but in the end the need for a pain killer was more important, she rubbed her chest lightly hoping to lessen the ache. She needed to rest her body and most of all she needed time to think of a way out of it all. Evony would have to do it all by herself, she couldn’t risk anyone else to get hurt because of her. Her mind could not think of any explanation for all that was happening or why. She felt his eyes on her as she opened a container labeled as pain killers, it irked her and all she wanted to do was to beat him bloody. It was all his fault.
The pain in her chest, the bruises in her wrist and ankles, around her neck and the thumping headache in her head. Just as she was thinking of all the things she’d like to do to him, he spoke in his arrogant, cold and inhuman voice.
