His arms were around her when they settled on the now burnt carpet, her arms were still locked under his own. He stepped back brushing past her looking around her small apartment as if taking its size into consideration before he briefly looked at her. He looked disturbed as he stayed quiet, listening for something and his eyes warned her to remain silent. The only sound Evony heard was of her heart as it threatened to jump out of her chest.
Suddenly a figure began to materialize in front of the couch that faced the TV, opposite of where they stood. Evony was in between the figure and Raphael but that quickly changed when he grabbed her shoulders and pushed her behind him in one swift movement. A blast of air shook her house as Raphael attacked the still figure and he muttered phrases in an unknown dialect until the man was transparent and no longer there.
Raphael chuckled under his breath before grabbing a knife and walking to the place where the man had tried to materialize in. He bent down and swiftly drew what looked like a deformed box on her carpet. Everything had happened so fast she could not process it all at once until he was facing her again.
“Sit down and be quiet.” He ordered pointing the knife at her as he turned toward the door, his cold tone was a bucket of ice water to Evony it was obvious he expected complete obedience. A part of her wanted to submit and wait for what was to come but her instincts screamed at her to run. She watched as his arms raised in front of him, palms pressed against the door and the air began to pulse with power as a gentle blue began to cover where he touched the wood. Her first thoughts were to run onto the streets but he was blocking the door and there was no exit in the kitchen. The neighbors were not close enough to hear anything but if she could get to one of the other apartments maybe they could help her.
Making a decision she backed away from him cautiously before beginning to run to her bedroom avoiding the furniture that had fallen over with the gust of air. She closed the door and pushed a heavy box filled with some of her belonging against it hoping it would delay him. He gave no chase and remained in the living room oblivious that Evony was no longer there, that gave her time to escape. Opening the window she only briefly glanced toward the soft hills behind her home that were now covered in darkness before trying to fit herself through.
Her foot connected with something hard blocking her way out, stepping back confused she placed her hand out only to be shocked when she touched a barrier. It shimmer with her touch and as far as she could see it enveloped the whole wall. As much as she tried to push or hit, it wouldn’t give in and just shimmered back into place. Looking around she grabbed her lamp from her nightstand and swung at the barrier as hard as she could. The thing didn’t even shudder and it only caused the head of the lamp to break off the base. Letting the broken lamp fall to the ground she searched for anything that could help her.
Turning on her heel she rushed toward her bed and reached under her bed where she kept her dad’s bat. It was metal and Evony hoped it would be strong enough to go against the barrier that had been put up by Raphael. Just as she was going to try her luck once again, the door was ripped off its hinges surprising a scream from her throat and Raphael stood there looking mildly amused. He stepped over the broken door and kicked aside the box with enough force that it created in a hole in her wall as it crashed.
“Get away from me.” She spit out as she placed a deadly grip on the bat’s handle lifting it over her shoulder, ready to strike. Evony was momentarily surprised that she sounded so angry when all she wanted to do was curl in the corner while wishing for all this to stop. “Get out of my house. Now!”
Raphael moved into the room, calmly looking around before speaking to her. The cut on his face and chest was no longer there but the dried blood clung to his skin making him look very macabre. “Or what? You do realize you are in no position to order anything.” As he moved into the bedroom she moved with him maintaining distance between them. “You’re a smart girl, you know you can’t stand against me.” Even though what he said was true and he could take her down in seconds, she maintained her stance thinking whether she should lash out and take him by surprise or wait for him to make his move. Either way her chances of winning against him were at negative numbers.
