rush

chucking things haphazardly into her open rucksack, (y/n) rushed to get her and her brother ready quickly as they got nearer and nearer to being catastrophically late. she shoved an apple into her bag and popped a piece of toast half way into her mouth; grabbing her brothers arm and the strap of her bag as she hurried out of the door and into her car that awaited her in the driveway, practically frozen solid. she huffed loudly in aggravation, her breath producing a little cloud in front of her face. at the sight of this, kags giggled and began to force as much breath out of his body as he possibly could, all at once. it only formed a tiny little cloud but it seemed to please him plenty so (y/n) let go of her grasp on him and left the boy to entertain himself with his breath while she hastily loaded the car.

once the car was ready, she lastly had to strap her little brother into his car seat. and, of course, he chose today to throw a tantrum. he began to scream and cry, throwing punches and kicks in (y/n)'s general direction. though she couldve tried to calm him before doing up his seat belt, she decided it would take far too long and they were already running late. so, she braved the barrage of attacks from little balled-up fists and successfully tightened his belt around his body and over his car seat. after kags was safely secured in the back seat, (y/n) sighed a loud,
'finally' and collapsed into the drivers seat, piece of toast still half hanging out of her mouth.

as she pulled out of the driveway and sped maybe a little too fast down the street, her little brother was still kicking his stubby legs around and had taken to screaming as loudly and as highly as he could, forcing himself to cry so a few lonely, fake tears ran down his cheeks. (y/n) looked back at him worriedly via the rear view mirror,

'bubba, what's wrong?' she cooed, trying the appear empathetic because she was honestly pissed at the little terror, but obviously still concerned.

he refused to answer her, she continued to ask him and attempt to sooth him the whole of the journey to day care, even offering him food and milk. but to no avail, he refused to let up his incessant screaming for even a second and continued even as (y/n) pulled up at the day care and scrambled out of the car and round to the car door that kags was nearest to.

she reached in and pulled the crying child out of his car seat, launched a secondary attack on her, throw more kicks and punches, even trying a bite or two. (y/n) practically growled in exasperation as she tried every single thing she could possibly conceive of to calm him but nothing seemed to be working. she was too exhausted to deal with this right now. not only was she going to be so awfully late for her first day of her new school but she was also almost certainly about to break down in tears. taking a deep breath, she attempted to hold on to her composure but she was struggling.

but then, like a light house appearing in a stormy sea, she watched as the handsome stranger from yesterday approached her with a knowing and sympathetic smile. he stretched out his hands towards her,

'i can take him if you want, i'm just about to start my shift here anyway,'

a tidal wave of relief washed over (y/n) and her eyes flooded with tears for a brief moment, she nodded resignedly,

'yes, please,' she sighed, defeatedly, passing the still screaming child over to the tall boy.

he took the kid into his arms and immediately began to soothe him, bouncing him up and down. the crying immediately quietened down as the silver-haired boy patted him gently on the back. (y/n)'s eyes widened slightly,

'how did you do that?' she questioned, partially in shock and partially in awe, 'he's been kicking-off all morning.'

'you just have to know how to calm them,' the stranger replied in a hushed tone as it appeared kags had begun to nod off.

(y/n) giggled quietly,

'thank you so much,' she responded, 'how can i repay you?'

'dont be silly!' he exclaimed, 'this is my job, and it's really no problem. i'm happy to help!'

(y/n) smiled widely at him,

'i'll take him in and get him to his room,' the man offered, 'you can go ahead and get going'

'are you sure?' he nodded with a smile in response, 'thank you so so so much'

(y/n) turned and reached for her car's door handle, however when she pulled it, it didn't open like it should. she tugged on it again, glancing back at the grey-haired man and offering him an awkward smile. she jiggled it a few more times and when nothing happened she pressed her face to the driver-side window and cupped her hands around her eyes so she could see inside. and there they were, her car keys sat in the ignition of her car almost taunting her.

at this she broke down, slamming her head into her window a little to harshly as tears began to roll down her cheeks.
