A/N: I wrote this on a whim, it's an old idea I had. I've been watching Sherlock so it's a bit introspective but I really like it and hope you do too!

Draco slammed the compartment door behind him. "Bloody gits," he mumbled under his breath. Usually, his friends were good company, but they were driving him up the wall for whatever reason that early afternoon. So he left. Scooted off his seat and waltzed out the door. The skinny hallway was quiet, peaceful almost. It instantly calmed Draco down. He decided he'd walk down the hallway, see what was happening. Not that he expected anything to be happening.
As he walked, he noticed a door. It was open. He considered this rather peculiar since nobody really left their compartment door open. There was no need to. Maybe it's empty, he thought. But as he got closer, he began to see the figure of a girl. First her shoes, they were black mary janes. Then her legs, covered in light blue jeans with frayed cuffs. Her arms crossed over her chest. And eventually, all of her. She was asleep, Draco noticed, curled up on the booth chair. Nobody else occupied the opposite seat. She was alone. It simultaneously frustrated and puzzled Draco that he couldn't seem to identify the girl. Surely she wasn't a first-year, no. No eleven year old had eyes bags such as her. They were dreadfully dark and deep. Somehow, they looked painful.
Suddenly, the train hit a bump. It nearly knocked Draco over, his shoulder ramming into the window of the compartment. His eyes immediately drifted to the girl. Her body had been jolted by the turbulence and was currently rolling off the chair. Quick on his feet, Draco lurched forward and stuck out his arms, of which she fell right into. Her eyes flickered open in alarm, and then they met his. Neither moved, both at a loss of what to do, what to say. Until finally, Draco tightened his grip and gently lifted the girl back onto her seat. This seemed to snap her into action. She began brushing off her lap and shifting uncomfortably.
"Thank you..." she paused, unsure of herself. She reached up and adjusted the red sash in her hair, eyes averted to the floor. Draco felt a strange sense of deja vu, standing in the door of a train compartment with three words on the tip of his tongue.
"Malfoy. Draco Malfoy," he said, sticking out his hand. The girl took it, her grip firm yet soft and reassuring.
"Y/N Y/L/N. Nice to meet you, Malfoy. Thanks for stopping me from cracking my skull on the floor," she said with a smile. She then withdrew her hand from his. He was reluctant to let her go but laughed at her joke.
"I don't think you would've cracked your skull per se, but you likely would've gotten a nasty headache."
She leaned back against the booth seat, eyeing Draco curiously. "All the same, thank you," she said. He nodded, having nothing else to say. It seemed neither did Y/N. So he turned to leave, not bothering to even wave goodbye. He had gotten a couple paces down the hall before hearing a voice behind him. "Wait," she said. Draco spun around to see her leaning out the door, apprehension in her eyes.
"Stay?" she asked. Draco weighed his options. Return to his friends who had been annoying the shit out of him today. Or, stay with this girl he'd just met. There was only one true option in his mind. He smiled at Y/N and walked back towards her. She pushed away from the doorframe and took a seat, watching as Draco did the same. They now sat across from one another, Y/N's hands crossed under her breasts and Draco's resting on his knees.
"So, Y/N. Why haven't I ever met you before?" Draco asked. He watched as a small smirk crept onto her lips. She shrugged her shoulders and stared out the window; the sun on her face highlighted the sleep in her eyes. Oh, how exhausted she looked.
