"liyah, come down for a minute," my dad called.
"alright," i replied.
my twin brother and i just recently moved in with my dad. we got taken away from my mother because she had a drug and alcohol addiction. my brother and i just found out that we have a little brother in the 7th grade. his name is cohen, he's 13 years old. my dad got a white married woman preganat, and she had cohen. cohen's mom chose her husband over him.
"what's up," i said when i got downstairs.
"this is our neighbor, she's 17 and goes to Sierra Canyon as well," my dad said.
"hey, im briana," the girl said.
"im ja'aliyah."
"well here's my number if you wanna hang out sometime," briana said.
"okay cool, imma text you real quick," i said.
"alright, nice meeting you," she said as she walked away."
when i got back upstairs, i texted the number. she replied fast. i finished decorating my room, then got ready for bed. in this new house, i had my own bathroom and my brothers shared a bathroom. i got used to being spoiled by my dad since i was his only girl.
after i was ready for bed briana texted me.

hey girl, you wanna hang this weekend?
yeah sure, what time?
um 5 good for you?
yeah cool.

i asked my brother, josh, if we wanted to come with me. of course he said yes. as the weekend approached, i asked briana where we were going. she said just to the trampoline park and the mall. that friday evening around 4:30 briana texted me.

you have a ride?
yeah imma drive
oh okay, you mind if my boyfriend and i ride with you?
sure, we're leaving in like 10 minutes.

josh and i sat in the car and waited for briana and her boyfriend to come to the car. when they finally got to the car, i started driving with the gps.
"do i need to pick up anybody else," i asked.
"um no, the other 2 are driving separately. but ja'aliyah this is my boyfriend dejuane, dejuane this is ja'aliyah," briana said.
"hey, this is my brother, josh," i replied.
"yo, y'all new to the area or state," dejuane asked.
