Eleven

"You can do it Adhya", I kept telling myself constantly as I was entering the conference room. I was supposed to pitch our idea to the clients today. Actually, as the boss Veer had to do it. But he insisted that I should go for it.

"Good luck, darling. You're the best", said Divya patting my back. I was like the cat on a hot tin roof.

I went into the room and pitched our idea. I couldn't make out anything from the clients' expressions. So I looked at Veer, he showed me thumbs up. One of the clients came forward and offered me a handshake. They told Veer they really liked the idea and were looking forward to working with us. After the clients left, Veer congratulated me and told me to work hard for this one. I was listening like a diligent student and promised him that I would work very hard for this.

As soon as I came to my desk, my phone started ringing. It was Rohan, my cousin.

"Yo Ads!"

"Roooo! Wassup?"

"Where the hell where you last month? No texts, no calls. I thought you were dead"

"Seriously? You know what? I have some news for you"

"What? Did Divya and her boyfriend break up?"

"No. Shut up. Why would you think like that. They are very happy"

"I thought I had a chance. Never-mind. What is your news? "

"Okay. You will be really excited after you hear my news"

"Now don't hype me up just tell me"

"I met your favorite Arjun Sharma"

"What the hell? When did this happen? Why didn't you tell me? Wait are you guys dating?"

"What? No. He is just a friend."

"Why didn't you tell me about this?"

"To be honest, I didn't think it was that important. Because the first time I met Arjun, I hated him. I never wanted to look at his face again. But eventually I realised that he's not bad"

"What eventually? How many times did you guys meet?"

"A couple of times", I said and narrated the whole story.

"Well the next time you meet him, tell him more about me. You should make him desperate to talk to me"

"Who are you, his girlfriend?", I giggled.

"Shut-up. I was just hoping for free tickets to the matches. Atleast do that for me"

"No way Ro, I will not take your orders now", I said. I saw Veer signalling me to come to his cabin."Listen, I have to go. I'll call you back"

"Okay. But don't forget about the tickets"

"Shut up", I said and hung up.

I went to Veer's cabin and we had a brief discussion about the project. After that we went to the cafeteria as we were very hungry. Just then I saw Arjun on the TV in the news. It said he was in Delhi for some launch. I felt pity for him. He was always busy and didn't have time for himself. After sometime I was scrolling through Instagram when I found Arjun's picture in the launch. He looked tired. I decided to text him and check on him.

Adhya: Hey. How are you?

There was a reply after an hour.

Arjun: I'm fine. What is going to happen to me?

Adhya: I saw your pictures on Instagram. You looked tired and unwell.

Arjun: Actually, let me tell you something. You're right. I'm down with fever since morning.

Adhya: Then why did you even go?

Arjun: I had to go Adhya. It was work related

Adhya: Did you have medicines? How are you feeling now?

Arjun: I had medicines. I'm feeling a little better now.

Adhya: When are you coming back?

Arjun: Tonight. Can I ask you something?

Adhya: Sure

Arjun: Can I get your number? It is really uncomfortable talking like this. I can't type for so long

Adhya: Yeah.

I gave him my number. After a couple of minutes I got a call from an unknown number. It was Arjun.

"Hi!", he said from the other end.

"Hello", I said.

"So how was your day madam?"

"The same old job as usual. But today I got us a very important project. My boss was very happy with my pitch. He even appreciated me in front of the whole team"

"I smell promotion"

"That's not how it works. There are a lot of steps to get there now. So let's not talk about it and talk about your day. When did you go to Delhi?"

"I had an early morning flight. I came to Delhi in the morning finished my event in the afternoon and now I am in the hotel room. I'll be back tonight"

"Take proper rest after you get home. You didn't sleep properly for the last few days. The only thing you're going to do tomorrow is sleep. Understand?"

"Sure madam"

"Don't go for practice tomorrow. You need to rest"

"Actually the practice is optional so I am gonna skip it. You know what, nobody has ever done this to me?"

"Done what?"

"Ordered me. Everybody keeps nodding to whatever I say. I have never really thought about myself. So I keep stressing myself out and get exhausted. Nobody has ever stopped me from doing things"

"Well you need people to stop you from doing things like that"

"Now I have you", he chuckled. I blushed. "Are you blushing?"

"No, why would I do that"

"I can feel it"

"Well don't get all filmy now", I said. I heard the doorbell ring from the other side.

"Hey, Sourabh's here. I'll call you back", he said and ended the call.

I finally felt nice today. I mean I was happy today but I felt that something was missing. After this call everything felt complete. I saved his number and looked at my phone and smiled. I opened Google and searched his name. It showed me a lot of information. I saw few of his performances. He was very good at most of them. His batting style was quite unique which made all the people in the stands go crazy. Specially girls, some of them were with play-cards proposing to him for marriage. Suddenly Divya's words echoed in my head 'Arjun is a sugar pie'. Indeed he is I thought.

I went home and completed all the chores I needed to do. It was almost midnight, I was still watching a movie. I wasn't able to sleep. Divya was fast asleep. Suddenly, my phone vibrated. It was a message from Arjun.

Arjun: Just landed.

Adhya: Go home and take rest. No going anywhere tomorrow

Arjun: 😓

Adhya: 😈😈

I switched off the TV went into my room and slept peacefully.
