Twelve

So I was in my office when my phone rang. It was from Arjun.

"You heard the news?", he asked.

"What news?", I said looking into my laptop screen.

"Divya and Shivin?"

"Don't beat around the bush. Just tell what you want to say, I am busy"

"So you really don't know that Shivin proposed to Divya?"

"What?", I cried out loudly. Everyone looked at me for once. I smiled and whispered. "What are saying? When did this happen?"

"Today. Did Divya not tell you?", he was surprised.

"Divya just told me that she had to meet Shivin. So she left early. I don't know anything more than that"

"Actually Divya didn't know anything about this. It was all Shivin's plan. He told me yesterday that he was going to her today"

"If you knew all this yesterday, then why didn't you tell me?"

"I don't trust you. What if you I told you and you leaked everything to Divya?"

"Very funny. Listen, I'll call you later Divya's calling me"

Divya told me everything. I could sense that she was very happy. So was Shivin. They were very excited.

"Sweetie,I'll come home and talk more about this", she said.

"Okay. Enjoy yourself"

I went home after work. I opened the door and it was very dark. I was just about to turn on the lights when I saw someone move across the living room. I was a little scared. I tried to switch on the light but the main was turned off. I switched on the torch in my mobile and went to check the main. Someone came from behind and held me so tight that I could barely move. But I managed to punch that person so hard in his stomach that he fell down. I quickly switched on the main. And turned on the lights.

"You? You shameless annoying person. What a stalker you are. How do have the key to my apartment?", I asked. My face turned red. I was really angry.

"Relax Relax. Divya and Shivin were here. I came along with them. They went out to get us food. They asked to stay back and wait for you", Arjun said.

"Oh! They asked you to wait for me, not to injure yourself ", I said sarcastically.

"What did you eat today? You hit me so hard", he said as he was trying to stand up.

"I have a brown belt in karate. You don't want to mess up with me"

"No never. Usually Divya falls for all these pranks. So I wanted to play them on you. Now I understood and will never come in your way", he said holding his stomach. "You freshen up I'll get you some coffee"

He went into the kitchen and was trying to search for milk. I open the refrigerator and gave him the milk. He was searching for coffee powder. When I was trying to reach the shelf beside him for coffee powder and sugar, he got all shaky.

"Relax. Don't get scared. I'm not going to do anything. I am just trying to help you out. And FYI it's dinner time I don't want coffee"

"No who got scared. I was just flexing. You don't want coffee, great. We'll just wait for dinner."

"You wait in the living room. I'll freshen up and come."

After freshening up, I came back to the living room. He was looking at his phone.

"How are you feeling now?", I asked

"Me. Better. As you said I slept the whole day. I'm feeling fresh and better"

"Did your fever subside?"

"Yeah. I'm fine"

Just then the door bell rang. It was Divya and Shivin. They got us dinner. I hugged Divya as soon as she came in. I congratulated both of them and said that I was really happy for them.

"Show me the ring", I demanded. Divya showed me the ring. It was gorgeous. It was a white gold ring with a huge sapphire in the center surrounded by diamonds.

"It is gorgeous", I said. "So when is the date?"

"Actually we didn't decide on a date yet. I just didn't want to delay. I wanted to tell her what I feel for her. So I proposed to her. We'll think about the date later", Shivin said.

"I love you", Divya said.

"Aww, you guys!", I said.

"Are you fine Arjun?", Divya asked. The whole time Arjun stood aloof holding his stomach.

"Yeah absolutely", he said

"Dude what is the matter why are you so quiet?", Shivin was surprised as his annoyingly talkative friend was standing as if he was being punished.

"Nah bro, I'm good. I'm just hungry"

Now I started to feel bad. I wanted to apologise.

"Sorry Arjun", I said.

"Why are you apologizing to him?", Shivin asked.

I told them the whole story and they started laughing like a drain.

"So you didn't know Adhya has a brown belt?", Divya was laughing like hell.

"How am I supposed to know that. She didn't hit me that hard also. It was nothing. I'm okay. Now let's go and eat", Arjun said.

Everybody started having dinner. They were talking, laughing and arguing. But all I was doing was feeling sorry for Arjun. I really wanted to apologize to him but didn't find a right chance. In the middle of the conversation he looked at me. I looked at him apologetically. He smiled and looked at me as if he wanted to let it go. I smiled back and assured him the same.
