The week flew by like the view from a speeding train. I dragged my feet along the pavement as I made my way to college. As I walked past a parade of shops, I caught my reflection in one of the windows. I stopped dead in my tracks. Thick, black bags hung under my eyes from where I'd lost sleep. I can't see Brian like this. After last week's catastrophe, I couldn't afford to lose anything. Oh well, my current state would have to do.

After about ten minutes, I arrived. I was instantly greeted by Brian, who ran across to me from the caferteria and I noticed Dominique looking jealously at me from her group of friends. I bet she'd noticed that I was spending more time with him.

"Hey! Rog what happened to you? You look sleep-deprived." Brian put his hands on my shoulders and looked into my eyes, "Is everything alright, at home?"

I shrugged, "Yeah, the usual. Drunkeness, hitting, throwing plates around, shouting at 1 am in the morning. But other than that, I'm fine."

Brian hugged me, his soft hair gently pushing into my face. It smelt like coconuts. I smiled, no one ever bothered to check if I was ok. Especially not Dominique. It was all just "When can we go out?" or "I can't wait for the weekend when we can be together.". No one really cared.

Except Brian.

"Fred! I need your help!" I ran towards him, where he stood talking to Jim.

"Brian finally got to your head, has he?" Freddie smiled, showing his buck teeth.

I looked into his eyes, pleading with him, "I think I'm in love with him."

Freddie sat me down, took my hands and simply said, "Well you go get him."

I stood up, turned to walk away and at the worst time, Dom showed up.

"Roger, where have you been! I've tried to talk to you, text you, call you but you never answer!"

I looked towards Fred and ushered her into the bathroom, "Look Dom, there's no easy way to say this but, I'm gay."

I breathed heavily, hoping she wouldn't freak out. She looked up at me, her nostrils flaring. Tears were in her eyes as she leaned in. I thought she was going too hug me, but she waved her arm back and slapped me on the right cheek. It was so painful I could almost feel a thick, purple bruise start to from.

"DO YOU THINK I'M THAT STUPID! HOW CAN YOU BE, YOU JUST WANT TO GET RID OF ME!" she screamed and I heard Fred say from the outside corridor, "Everbody just move along, nothing to see here!"

"What?" I could feel hot tears begin to stream down my face, "What do you not understand about that sentence?!" I could feel my anger rising, but I knew I couldn't let my temper get the better of me, "I'm sorry- no, I don't need to apologise for being who I am! It's the truth!"

She looked into my eyes and spat, "What BOY would you possibly like more than me!" Her arms crossed, waiting for an answer. But then the realisation hit her, "HIM! HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY LIKE THAT NERD! WITH HIS WEIRD HAIR AND-"

"BRIAN IS WORTH AT LEAST 39 OF YOU! I LOVE YOU, BUT I'VE REALISED THAT THIS IS WHO I AM! AND IF YOU CAN'T ACCEPT THAT, THEN GET OUT OF MY LIFE! 'COS I DON'T NEED YOU!"

I walked out on her, leaving her to drown in her pitiless, spiteful tears. Oh dear, that could have gone better....

A lot better.
