(Roger's POV)
SLAM! I swung the door shut in my parents' faces. Every morning it was the same. Constant bickering and fighting. I'm on the edge of having an outbreak and yelling in their faces. They were never bothered about my wellbeing, or education. No. They were too wound up in their own problems.
Shivering, I headed down the road towards the traffic lights. I should've brought a coat out, but I left in such a hurry. There was no way that I was going to go back in that hellhole. I ran across the road, to the disapproval of an angry man in an almost antique ford. After a shouting match and a lot of swearing, I arrived at the college. I was almost immediately greeted by a slightly over-enthuiastic hug, that sent me flying to the floor.
"Hi, Rog."
Dominique, again. I don't know what it was, but I wasn't that interested in her anymore. I could never tell her though, she doesn't exactly take breakups well. Once, a guy broke up with her, and she freaked out and stabbed him with a fork. It was plastic, but the only reason he wasn't seriously injured was because the caferteria doesn't provide metal ones.
I got up, gave her a kiss on the cheek and went off to find Freddie and John (we sometimes call him Deaky). I found then sitting on a bench, eating breakfast.
"HEY BESTIE! I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU SINCE THE HALF TERM!" John shouted, which caused the surrounding students to stop and stare.
"It's only been two weeks!" I said, incredulously.
"But it feels like a lifetime darling!" Fred joined in.
I laughed as I sat down, my spirits lifted. Even though there was a 5 year age gap between us (Freddie's 21, I'm 18 and John's 16), we got on like a house on fire. Suddenly, I noticed a boy about Fred's age, sitting opposite me. I stared at him, trying to figure out who he was.
Freddie looked intensly at us both and cried, "Oh I forgot! Rog, this is my boyfriend Jim. Jim, this is my best friend Roger."
"Hi Jim! Nice to meet you." I put my hand out and he shook it, mugh stronger than I expected.
I smiled at Fred who looked really confused. "What?"
"Nothing." The smile turned into a smirk and I refocused my attention to Jim.
"You should think about cutting your hair one day, you may get a lot of split ends."
"What?"
"Jim's a trainee hairdresser," Deaky piped up. "He's encouraged me to cut my hair. I might get a perm!"
I was about to come back at him with a sarcastic comment but the bell rang. We hastily got our bags and headed off to class. My first period was Biology, but I was moved up two years because I was so good at it, even though I found it slightly boring.
When I sat down in my seat, I realised that I wouldn't have a partner. Paul left last term, and I wasn't complaining. He was annoying as hell until Freddie forced him out. It turns out that Fred is a good boxer. Got himself suspended though, but it was worth it.
Mr. Beach calmed the class down and it was only then that I saw a boy that almost looked like a cross between a tree and a poodle. His hair was a dark shade of brown and his eyes were a hazel-green. I let out a half-conscious sigh and I knew that people were staring at me.
"Everyone, this is Brian. He is our new student." Brian smiled, a warm smile that sent shivers down my spine. "Brian, I believe there is a empty chair next to that blonde boy there." My heart did a somersult in my chest. Brian was going to sit next to me! Suddenly Biology didn't seem so boring anymore.
