Farren was riding his horse with his brothers and father. It had snowed, it was so deep that his horse could barely walk but they had to push on for their Kingdom's future when his brother, Legatos moved his horse next to Farren's
"Father is being stubborn and petulant, it's madness to travel in this weather, he's going to get both ourselves and our horses killed" Legatos complained as Jeronyn who had quite obviously been eavesdropping moved his horse closer to Legatos and smacked him upside the head
"You speak of which you do not know, Father is trying to form alliances, if we do not form an alliance with at least one of the kingdoms then we are doomed, our economy wasn't stable enough to join this war and it will be destroyed by the end without allies, Father is doing what is best for our people not what is best for one person" Jeronyn said. Jeronyn was a wise man, at the age twenty-three, he was the oldest of his father's children, Legatos was twenty, the middle child and the most reckless and then, Farren Grarnveth aged eighteen, the youngest but not the weakest
"Farren, my son, ride with me" Father called and Farren made his horse go faster to catch up with his father
"Father" Farren said
"Farren, this is a diplomatic event and I have something to ask of you that is if you would like the challenge" Father said
"What is it, Father" Farren asked innocently
"We both know that Jeronyn and Legatos aren't exactly diplomatic in most ways, I was hoping that you could keep them in check" Father said
"Of course, Father" Farren replied and he sighed
"I had always thought they would have grown up by now" Father said disappointedly
"Father, if you don't mind me asking but what is the point of this war if there is nothing to gain" Farren asked and it was as if his father's face lit up at the question back to simpler times Farren supposed but it seemed like he had a purpose
"There is much to gain, almost sixteen years ago, the Brargynog's ruled this land with an iron fist, it is said that whoever shall win the war for Salerya will have the wealth of the Devil himself" Father said
"So, it's about riches nothing more, nothing less" Farren asked
"Not just that but more, my son" Father said. It was in this moment that he began to question whether his father was looking out for their kingdom or himself
