After the BEST night of sleep, I finally wake up. I roll over in Allison's bed, and look at the time. Seven thirty!! Oh no! I'm typically supposed to be up at six. I quickly rush down the stairs, ignoring the searing pain in my ribs. I'm going to be punished, on my first day here!
I round the corner by the stairs, walking into the living room. Directly behind the Livingroom, Allison and a strange, older man were sitting at a dining room table. He didn't help my already rising anxiety. They were both drinking a cup of coffee, and reading the news paper.
They both put their paper down as I entered the room. I quickly start to apologize for sleeping in, and they both look at me with puzzled expressions.
"Don't worry about it," she says with a cheerful smile, "I didn't tell you what time to be up, plus you had a really hard day yesterday."
"On a different note, Adelyn, meet Gibbs." Gibbs takes a sip of his coffee, and smiles.
I felt something rub against my leg, and I instantly froze. Gibbs's voice snapped me out of my panic. "Don't panic, that's Scout, A's dog. A is Allison's nickname."
I nodded, and reached down to pet Scout. She was super soft, and she licked my hand. "Do you have any other dogs?" I asked, while petting Scout.
"Well, Jack, Gibbs's fiancé, has another little dog. His name is Dalton, and Gibbs's and Jack adopted him last November." Allison said.
"She'll be back on Sunday." Gibbs said, and I nodded in response.
I sat down at the table, and we chatted for a bit. At about seven forty-five, Adelyn told me to go get ready, because we were going to breakfast.
I headed back upstairs, pain taking my breath with every stair. I made it back upstairs, and quickly took two more pain killers. I realized I was almost out. I only had enough for three more days.
I brushed my teeth, and changed into some of my new clothes. I really loved all of them. I open the bathroom door, and Allison is making the bed. "Umm.. will you fix my hair?" I ask timidly. Scared, she might say no. Thankfully, she said yes, and she braided it back into two French braids. I felt so pretty in my new clothes, and fancy hair. The clothes covered all of my bruises and burns.
We headed to the diner, which was this retro, 50's themed, place that transported you back in time. I wasn't hungry, from all of the food the night before, so I was planning on not eating, but when I saw the food, my stomach changed its mind.
The food was so, so, so good!! I had never tasted such good pancakes. After we finish eating, Gibbs says that he's going to work. Allison said that she would be in around 1000, and I was confused, what was 1000? Was it some weird signal, or sign. Instantly, my brain goes to the worst things possible.
Allison sees the panic on my face, and is worried. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, but is 1000 bad?" I ask very shyly. I had opened up more to Allison than anyone before. I was worried that something bad was about to happen.
But, Allison just smiled, "1000 is Military time for ten o'clock."
I was shocked that it meant nothing bad, but I was grateful too. If Gibbs was going to work, and Allison was too, would I go to work with them? I wondered.
"Am I going to work with you and Gibbs?" I ask, beginning to panic.
She shakes her head. "No, your going to school."
