Seven Days Remaining
"Hinata! Hinata! Raven, wake up!"
I gasped, heart hammering against my chest. Noya shook me violently.
"You two have to come see this. Suga found it! Raven, we know who you are!"
I jumped onto two feet. My hands dropped to Hinata's shoulder, shaking him. The first-year muttered in his sleep and attempted to roll over.
"Hinata!" I chastised, "get up!"
Slowly, his honey brown eyes fluttered open. He brought a hand up to rub them. A yawn broke his lips.
"What's wrong?" He asked, slowly drawing into a sitting position.
"They found my identity. Suga got the school file."
My voice was a mix of excitement and despondency. Hinata blinked for a few minutes, registering my words. He suddenly leapt to his feet. His hand lashed out to wrap around my wrist. Together, we lurched towards the middle of the gym.
I slowed once we got closer. Pictures were splayed all over the floor. Portraits, family photos, yearbook, hobbies... everything. A shuddering exhale left my chest.
Hinata sat me down. Suga mumbled to himself as he assorted the paperwork and aligned the photos. I gingerly leaned forward to look at an image, but Suga snatched it away immediately.
Everyone was crowded in a circle. Hinata lay to my left, Kageyama to my right. Tensions ran high. Every nerve in my body thrummed in a mix of excitement and fear.
"Alright, so let's get started then," Suga finally announced. He dropped back onto his legs, sitting.
"His name is (Y/n) (L/n)."
My eyes widened. (Y/n). My name is (Y/n). The words felt so... foreign. Right, and yet terribly wrong. I spoke them aloud. They rolled uneasily off my tongue, leaving a bitter taste.
"He was a second year here."
"Second?" Tsukki cut him off, eyeing me. "He does not look older than me."
I rolled my eyes. "I've been here a while, Tsukki. Even older than you think, obviously."
"(Y/n) had a mother, father, and little sibling."
A chill assaulted my spine. I did have a family... wow. It was both a great relief and a great pain. My emotions were in a turmoil. I was sad to have left them behind, yet glad to not have been alone in life.
"Teacher reports described him as 'a quiet, antisocial boy with a good heart', a 'loner', and a 'damn good volleyball player and a real stand up guy'."
I paused at the last sentence. Coach Ukai..?
Suga snorted. "That last one is from the old coach Ukai."
"The old Coach Ukai?" Daichi asked. "What... what years did (Y/n) attend Karasuno?"
"Hmm," Suga dug through the files, "it looks like..." his sentence tapered off into silence.
"The same year that our Coach Ukai was a second year."
All eyes turned to me. That long..? The revelation shocked me to my very core. Over ten years now... I've been dead for over ten years. My hands came up to cover my eyes, attempting to cover the shock.
"He's been dead for ten years," Yamaguchi exhaled under his breath.
It's a wonder I haven't gone corrupt yet, I noted with a scowl. I have to end this soon. Right after this deal, I'll never make another one. I won't risk it. My hands clenched.
