It was odd, to say the least.
I haven't felt what it's like to be an angel in years. Yes, Crowley did occasionally allow me to feed from my own grace to prevent the destruction of my soul, but a few savoury moments compares in no way to prolonged exposure. Especially to stolen grace. Joseph was one of Castiel's and my superiors in our garrison and therefore held a great deal of power. His grace was more exhilarating than mine and though I knew it would eventually run out, I was going to savour the feeling.
I was in the back of the Impala as Dean drove and Sam flipped through some book of his. Unfortunately, angels can't steal another's wings; that only comes back with the restoration of one's own grace. So, I was stuck with human transportation. I hadn't told either of the brother about my newly-reclaimed status and had to change into another one of the old shirts Sam had given to me, but I did secretly use my powers to our advantage.
"And you're sure the nest is on the outskirts of the city?" Dean glanced at me through the rear view mirror and I nodded. Of course I knew, I could basically smell the stench of both the heap of monsters and the angels that stalked them. But, of course, I hadn't given either of them an actual explanation, much to Dean's dislike. "Do you plan on explaining how?"
"I told you- I have a feeling. And given my past, I think I'd like to trust my feelings." He gave me a doubtful look, and I crossed my arms over my chest. "Do you have any reason not to trust me?"
He ran his tongue over his teeth. "I guess not. You had better be right, though."
"If I'm wrong," I challenged as I looked out of the window. "Then what is that boarded-up shed over there?"
Sure enough, there was a building up ahead, with its windows nailed with wooden boards and about ten trucks parked outside. There didn't seem to be any movement from inside, but that didn't take away from the fact that the building sure seemed like the perfect place for a bunch of nesting vampires.
"She was right, Dean," Sam said with a teasing smile, looking at his brother for a moment before looking back through the windshield.
"Yeah, yeah." He didn't park directly in front of the shed, but rather a couple of yards away, which made a quick getaway a little harder but the need for one a little less likely. If they couldn't hear us, they wouldn't be suspicious.
We all got out of the car and Dean headed straight for the trunk, where I have recently learned is their 'arsenal' so to say. The thing is packed with a variety of guns, knives, and unconventional weapons from any century and place you could think of.
"Choose your poison," Dean presented, opening the trunk and stepping back. It was a test, of course, to see if I was any good having around. If I couldn't kill a vampire, they might as well leave me home next time a case comes. I glanced through the salt rounds, ninja stars, rifles, and daggers, and found just what I needed: a rigid-edged stainless steel machete. I unsheathed it with some care, and let it glint in the sunlight up above before finally letting it rest in my palm.
"Good answer." Sam smiled at me and took his own machete from the trunk, though with a cleaner edge than mine. Dean did the same. "So Jade, are you ready to kick some vampire ass?"
I knocked the machete against my boot, hitting it against the hidden angel's blade neither of them knew was in there. "Are you kidding? I've been waiting for this all day."
After what was pretty much the equivalent to a pep rally, we trekked up the small hill to the building. At first, an entrance wasn't clear but Sam was able to point out a break in the wall that must've been where the vampires could leave and enter. Dean entered first, regaining his role as 'group leader' of course and Sam and I shortly followed, We kept our weapons in front of us and in check, moving our gazes from left to right to make sure there wasn't any surprise attacks. At this point, the smell was as strong as ever, and I knew it wasn't just vampires here, but angels as well. Good. It's always nice to literally kill two birds with one stone.
