Chapter warnings: Mention of suicide

-----

"I don't like the idea of splitting into two groups." Minho said with a weird look. "I don't see why we can't investigate both, one after the other, as a group."

"I'm telling you, if we pick the wrong one, they'll find us out." Felix said insistently. "According to my reconnaissance, they have the ability to survey three locations. I've narrowed it down to two, but if we were to go to any, they'd know. Once they know we're coming for them, we'll have to start all over."

"How were you able to get around their setup, then?" Jisung asked curiously.

"We don't have time for this!" He argued. "Hyunjin, Jisung and I can go to the first location, Chan, Changbin, and Minho to the other."

"What about me?" Y/N asked.

"And why those groups?" Changbin asked. "You're putting all our warriors together, and you know Jisung will generally keep his hands clean. Your group is severely underpowered."

"I agree," Chan cut in, ignoring Y/N's question. "Jisung will go with the second group, and I'll go with the first." Changbin immediately had a problem with that.

"Chan, I'm not letting you g-"

"It wasn't a question. That's an order from an archangel." Chan commanded, leaving Changbin to pause, and then simply nod. He was good at taking orders.

"I'm coming with you." She said to Felix, Hyunjin, and Chan, putting her foot down.

"No, you're staying here." Chan started, before she continued with her demands.

"Not without a guardian angel, I'm not!" She insisted. "It's more dangerous here by myself."

"I said, n-"

"I don't take orders from angels. I'm a human." She said. Felix looked to Bang Chan, then to her. It wouldn't hurt to have her there... If anything, she'd act as a weakness for Hyunjin. It may prove useful in getting him under control.

"I'm sure she can come, it'll be fine." Felix said, holding a hand in the air. "This should be an absolute cakewalk. Plus, if one group arrives at a location and there's no threat, they know to travel to the other. It'll be simple." That sounded well enough.

"Some guardian," Hyunjin muttered, "You're going to take her out into battle with us?" Felix's eyes slid over to Hyunjin's, locked in a silent staring contest.

"Both of you, stop it." Chan said. "We have to get along, since we're in the same group. Felix, you open both gates, we'll go through. Whichever group doesn't find the fallen angels, fall back and travel through the other gate." Felix's mood dipped a bit. Keeping the gate open would take up a decent amount of energy. He wasn't sure if he'd be able to help the fallen angels should his power be compromised like that. Normally, he wouldn't have cared- he hated them, it was their fault that Hyunjin had been assigned to Y/N, why she was given any angel to confide in other than himself. Still, they were going to fix it now.

"Let's go." Felix said, not wanting to waste anymore time. He opened both gates, side by side in Y/N's room. He was the first to walk through the one on the left, as he had to give the signal to those waiting for him. The timing was only perfect, hence his hurry to get to the meeting location as fast as possible. He didn't see, but the other group waled through the portal on the right, as he felt the energy leave his body.

The second group, consisting of Changbin, Jisung, and Minho, upon arrival, were met with a large set of stone walls. Stepping forward, Minho was the first to call out,

"Where are you cowards? What is this place?"

"That's not going to work." Changbin said quietly, observing the scene in front of them. Upon his instruction, Minho realized that it wasn't just walls- it was a maze. "We're not going to know if they're here unless we search the maze." He said.

"We can just fly above and find them."

"Not possible. There's a roof."

"This is obviously a trap, then!" Minho shouted, "They're distracting us from the other location!"

"But what if it's not?" Jisung said with a hum. "Then you've just gone and ruined it. You have to be absolutely sure, hmm?" He couldn't argue with that, but it still didn't feel right. Something here wasn't as it should have been.

Meanwhile, as the first group walked through, Bang Chan and Hyunjin took surveillance of the area, having been the first time they'd ever seen it. Y/N, however, stopped dead in her tracks. Hyunjin, tuned into her as he was, immediately noticed, walking to her side in concern.

"Is something wrong?" He asked. "You look like you've seen a ghost." Her knees shaking with unsteadiness, she crumbled to the ground, staring as if at nothing, fingertips clawing at the dirt. Hyunjin dropped to his knees, pulling her up to try and hold her.

"Hey! Hey, talk to me! What's wrong?"

"Y/N?" Felix asked, concerned as well, trying to walk over. As soon as he spoke, though, her glance focused on him, causing her to recoil, backing up to try and get away from here. "Y/N, what's the matter?!"

"H-how did you know how to get here?!" She asked frantically. "How did you know?!" He tilted his head in confusion.

"W...Wha..." His eyes shot open when he'd realized his mistake. The whole reason he'd known to come here was because of Seungmin. If Y/N somehow knew this spot as well... No, there was no way she could have known about its connection to him.

"This is where I tried to kill myself." She said.

"You what?!" Hyunjin asked, gripping onto her arm in desperation. He didn't know about that little fiasco...

"Y-yeah, I was your guardian at the time, wouldn't it make s-sense that-"

"You were her guardian angel, and you let her try to kill herself?" Hyunjin asked, tears rolling down the corners of his eyes. Normally he wouldn't have been so empathetic, but the connection a guardian has with the human they're protecting- it was causing him to force himself to feel the pain that might cause someone to turn to such things.

"No!" She said. "You weren't there!" She was accusing him, calling out his lie. "I walked into my apartment, and you said, 'I thought something bad was going to happen, but then I couldn't sense you at all'. You didn't know where I was. You weren't here. So the only way you could know..."

"Hello, Y/N." She heard a voice say from their right. Everyone looking over, they saw none other than their targets, the fallen angels, Seungmin and Jeongin, wings spread and walking right towards them. They were actually quite surreal, it was the most angelic energy they had ever exuded since she'd met them.

"Just what do you think you're doing?" Bang Chan asked, stepping in front of the three on the ground.

"Get out of the way, murderer. My business is with Felix, and it's already been dealt. I'll be takin Hyunjin now."

"Felix?" Hyunjin looked to him.

"Hyunjin?" Bang Chan said in succession, looking back.

"Murderer?" She asked fearfully.
