The next morning Jake was very quiet. He was still in shock over what had happened to his dad. He just sat there while Savannah and I worked on the cottage. We didn't mind working without him, though. I mean, he just lost his father and we were very sorry for him. We were not about to force him to work.

The cottage was really starting to look good. In fact, it looked AMAZING! It was made out of logs so it had a cabin look to it. We made a small grill out of rocks so that we could cook some things. Jake had a lot of skills that were useful for us. He could build fires easily, he could identify plants and animals that were safe to eat, all kinds of things like that. He even built us a small dock for us to go fishing for our food. We almost made it feel like home. I was very proud of our hard work.

"Wow. I never thought we were capable of doing such a fine job at building a house!" Savannah said as she stood amazed at our work.

"Yeah I know! It's awesome!" I said smiling at her.

We went inside. The cottage consisted of only two rooms. One room was a kitchen, and the other was where we all slept. Our beds were only a few piles of clothes with a thin sheet over it. There were a few chairs in there also. I sat down and started a fire. It took a few tries, but soon I got it.

I got a bowl and poured some soup in it and began to heat it up. I kinda missed the meats and French fries. All we had were non perishable foods such as canned soup. But I was still thankful that we had at least something to eat.

A few minutes went by.

"Ok soup is ready!" I announced.

"Coming!" Savannah answered back.

We were both there, sitting at a small table, but where was Jake? I went outside to go check on him. I glanced off in the distance and saw him sitting there, on a log. I walked over there.

"Hey." I said.

"Oh, hey." he said not really looking at me.

"You alright?" I asked him feeling very concerned.

He didn't say anything. He just sat there hiding his face. I sat down in the sand in front of him.

"Come on. Talk to me." I wanted him to go back to the way he was.

"Ok. Well...hi again." he said trying to smile a little.

"Hey." I smiled. "Are you hungry at all? I wouldn't be surprised if your not. It must be so hard for you. I'm so sorry."

He finally looked at he. He smiled a little then looked away.

"Nah. I'll pass."

"Yeah that's what I thought."

His nose was running a little from crying. His nose was red and his eyes were watering. Finally a tear slipped away from his eye.

"I'm going to have to tell my family about Dad." he said trying to hide a tear.

"It will be alright. I know you loved your dad, and still love him, but it will be alright." I tried to comfort him the best I could.

"Yeah. I guess your right." he sniffled.

I stood up and was about to go back to the cottage.

"Wait." Jake said grabbing my arm.

"Yeah?"

"Your an amazing, caring person. I am very lucky to be here with you rather than anyone else. Thank you for being here for me. I really like you."

I smiled really big.

"Oh your welcome. I like you too." I said not being able to control my smile.

He smiled back and winked.

I laughed.

We then got up, and started walking back.
