"OH MY GOODNESS!"

It was a helicopter! Could it be true? We're they looking for us? Or was this just a tour helicopter? There was no way to know. Savannah and I waved our hands and screamed.

"HELP! HELP! HELP!" we both screamed and yelled but it would not turn around. Jake heard all of the screaming and ran over.

"Why are you yelling?!" Jake yelled from afar.

We pointed at the helicopter as it slowly faded away. I stomped at the ground.

"How could this happen?" I said as I sat down very annoyed. "I guess it was a tour helicopter."

"That's wonderful!" Jake exclaimed.

"How is that wonderful?"

"If they came here once for a tour, they would come back, right?" he said with a smile.

"Oh yeah!" my mood suddenly changed. We actually might have hope.

"Yeah but what if their season is over?" Savannah said.

"Oh yeah that's true. Around this area there are a lot of storms so they close early." Jake said.

My heart sunk. How could this be? I felt like crying. Savannah helped me up and we walked back to the camp together.

"Father are you alright?" Jake asked his dad, the doctor.

"Yeah I'm alright." he answered back.

The doctor had been feeling sick lately and we have been trying to care for him. He was a doctor so he knew all of these types of plants that would help him.

"It's late. I'm going to bed." I said followed by a yawn.

"Ok good night." Savannah said.

That morning Jake woke me and Savannah up. He lead us up to the area where his father lay. He had died from his sickness. I could tell Jake didn't want to cry in front of us, but he couldn't hold it in.

"I have lost both of my parents now." Jake said as a few tears slipped out of his eyes.

Savannah and I tried to comfort him.

"He's in a better place now." we both told him. "your ok, your ok."

"Ok maybe I'm not ok! You have no idea what it's like to lose your mom and your dad at this age!" Jake yelled as he ran as fast as he could away from us. His eyes were red and wet.

We were shocked and scared at the same time.

"This must be so hard on him."

"Yeah. He was right. We have no idea what it's like to lose even one parent."

We both sat down. I sighed and watched the sun rise. That image kept on replaying in my head. We took a walk in the same direction that Jake had ran. We saw him laying on a rock curled up.

We walked over to see if he was alright.

"I am so sorry about the way I acted then. I was just upset." Jake said ashamed.

"Your fine." I said.

"You guys are the best." he said with a smile.

We buried his dad later that afternoon. It was quiet and all we could hear was the gentle waves going in and out. The sunset was a spectacular mixture of pink, orange, and yellow. Jake found a pencil in one of his dad's bags and wrote a note. It said this:

Dear dad,

I love you and will miss you forever.

I'm sorry about all of the fights that we

had before. I know you have always been

there for me and I want to thank you for

that. I will ALWAYS love you.

Your beloved son,

Jake

It was so touching that I started to cry. Jake folded the note and buried it next to his dad. He whispered to himself,

"I love you."

We turned and walked back to the camp.
