Enjoy a little holiday special! It's really short because I wrote it for a little contest in a Discord server and everyone else submitted short stories-

i kinda want that one-month nitro

Anyways, this isn't entirely canon to my AU, but I hope you'll like it nonetheless. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The cold air had descended upon Paradise. Houses and shops were covered in greens and ornaments. The Tree of Life was decked in fairy lights. The festive cheer was tangible in the air.

And Cyan still wasn't sure how to enjoy the holidays.

All his life, he had been alone. Raised in an orphanage with no one to provide him love, every winter all he could do was watch with longing and a twinge of jealousy as other, more lucky children walking past the orphanage chirped enthusiastically to their parents, chattering and giggling as every child should. Even the unloved children of the orphanage found happiness within each other, screaming in delight and wrestling each other into the snow. Until he was fifteen, Cyan had nobody.

And that loneliness left a mark on him that would take a while to properly heal.

Now in the present, the seventeen-year-old Cyan stared quietly outside his frosted window, watching the same view as he had been for as long as he could remember — except this time he wasn't watching all alone in the orphanage, instead now having his own apartment and at least feeling a lot less lonely with his newfound friends, his fellow Guardians. Despite that, he still stared listlessly through his window, subconsciously watching how his warm breath fogged the icy glass pane. Isn't this winter going to be the same as every other winter he had for the past sixteen years?

The answer was no.

Suddenly, a pair of pale blue hands, chilly with the weather yet warm to the touch, appeared on either side of his face and covered his eyes gently and playfully, and a soft giggle was heard. Honestly, it almost gave Cyan a heart attack — but upon hearing the giggle, he knew exactly who was standing behind him.

"Hey Kinn," Cyan finally pulled a smile, placing his hands on the ones over his eyes and gently pulling them downwards so he could look behind him. There she was; his Cube. His kind, compassionate, thoughtful Cube. Kinn was always a sight he adored, with her silken periwinkle blue hair streaming down her shoulders like a waterfall, her pale blue skin as soft as snow, and gentle, placid pearl black eyes partially hidden under her half-closed eyelids. She was wearing winter-ready clothes — a thick sky blue sweater with the pattern of a sad cube on it, a warm pair of stockings beneath a skirt that resembled the one she usually wore and a pair of brown, fluffy ankle-length boots.

He and Kinn had started their relationship just a few months ago, and after knowing her for a year, he knew he wasn't making a mistake.

"I've been looking all over for you," Kinn chirped, tidying up a few messy strands of Cyan's hair. "Aren't you coming with us to play in the snow?"

Cyan's smile faltered a little. "Eh, yeah, I guess..."

"Well... it's okay if you don't feel like it," Kinn smiled, shrugging lightly. "But if you are joining, um..." Shyly, she pulled a brown paper package from the table which Cyan hadn't initially noticed, and ripping it apart Kinn pulled out a sweater that looked almost exactly like hers, except it had a milky blue colour with a cyan square pattern on it. Cyan's eyes widened. "I remember you telling me that your old sweater was torn and slightly too small for you, so I bought you a new one. I hope you like it-"

But her sentence was cut a bit short as a little cyan blur dashed forwards and wrapped his skinny arms around the Cube's waist. A warm feeling, something he had never felt before in any other winter, spread across his chest like the warmth of a fireplace spreading across a layer of ice. And along with it, so did a smile across his face. Maybe he could enjoy this winter after all.

"It's perfect," he whispered. "Thank you, Kinn."
