(Hunter's POV)
I knew I should have kept my mouth shut as I watched her leave my room. But her last name reminded me of a dead pack that died 15 years ago. They had been massacred by humans who had recently moved into the area at the time. There was a rumor that everyone on the pack either died or disappeared completely. I wonder if she knew what actually happened that day. I knew that she would be touchy about anything when it came to her and when I asked about her family, I could practically see her guardian walls skyrocket. The smile she had when she shook my hand vanished in an instant and the life in her eyes didn't shine as brightly.
I sighed and decided to go apologize to her. I followed her scent to a bathroom a little ways past the stair-well. When I reached the door, I was about to knock when I heard her talking to herself, or at least that's what I thought. The more I listened, the more I realized that she was having more of a one-sided conversation compared to her just talking to herself. Her voice was quiet even by wolf standards so I was only able to make out certain words and phrases like: "Last time...", "..control...", "...steam...", "...city...", "...issues...", "...male...", and "...sore spot".
After she stopped talking, I decided to move away. I didn't want her knowing I was eavesdropping on her. I went to the railing and stared down at the wolves below, trying to understand what she was talking about. Nothing made sense. I'm sure if I were to hear the how thing, I would understand more but unfortunately, I don't think her finding out of my presence in that moment would have gone in my favor.
I sensed eyes on me and when I turned to see who it was, I saw Siren looking at me. I smiled and waved her over, wanting to introduce her to the pack. When she was close enough, I offered my hand but she refused and looked at the crowd below. I looked as well and let out a loud howl. The Omegas below quit talking and instantly looked at me. I looked at Siren, smiling, but she had a far away look in her eyes. I tapped her shoulder and immediately, her head quickly looked at me and for a second I thought she would get whiplash. When I made sure to make a mental note not to bother her when she was in deep thought, I nodded and looked out at the crowd. My body straightened as I smiled.
"Wolves of the Shadowed Moon pack! We have a special wolf that will be staying for about a week. Please treat her with the respect you always have for each other!" I said, making sure my voice projected everywhere so they heard me clearly. The Omegas nodded and looked at Siren before bowing. I saw Siren cringe slightly and thought that she was uncomfortable with the attention. I smiled at the Omegas.
"No need to be formal, guys. She's only staying for a week so please don't scare her off." I said, some of the Omegas chuckling at my statement. I knew they wouldn't do anything to her but I was trying to make sure Siren stayed for much longer than a week. I was hoping she stayed with me until the day we died.
