Team Free Will had a long, hard day.

To begin, a particularly nasty ghoul proved to be a cumbersome match for the two hunters, enough so that Castiel had to be called down from heaven.

"Cas pal, please fly your feathered ass down here as quick as possible before we are eaten alive." Dean prayed aloud as two bodies pounded against the door he and Sam were trying to keep closed.

Suddenly the pounding ceased allowing the brothers room to breathe. Sam grabbed the stitch at his side and opened the door to show Cas with flecks of ghouls blood on his trench coat.

"Hello Dean. Sam." He nodded in acknowledgment to the latter while keeping his eyes on the former.

"Oh thank god." Dean said as a bit of blood dripped down his mouth.

Cas tore his eyes away from Dean's when he saw the dribble. He then moved his gaze up and down the brothers, looking for other signs of wounds or pain and finding a cut on Dean's stomach.

Seeing no other lacerations, Cas put his hand on Deans shoulder and healed the cut on his lip and stomach.

Sam started searching through their pack for gasoline and Dean's old lighter.

"Alright Sammy." The newly healed Dean said. "Lets light the bastards up."

----------

Sam walked out of the bathroom to find Dean passed out on one of the motel's beds with an open bottle of beer on the nightstand. Cas had disappeared after the Ghouls remains were burned and the brothers were sure no trace of the hunt remained in the old house.

Sam laid down, ready for what he hoped would be at least six hours of sleeps.

----------

"No. No, no, no." Sam heard Dean mumble. "Alastair no. Cas! No cAS!"

At this point Sam started to really wake up, Deans words were coming out more pained now.

Sam was just about to bolt up when he heard a second voice. A consoling voice. A voice Sam knew and trusted to comfort his brother, but surprised him none the less.

"Shh...hey, hey. Your safe Dean. You're not in hell. You are on Earth. I am here. You are safe." Cas spoke with a calm voice.

And slowly Deans grunts of pain turned into small whimpers. And from small whimpers to a peaceful sigh. His expression was calm now, soothed by Cas's presence and words.

Cas continued his whispers and gently petted Dean's hair.

Sam didn't move a muscle. Three weeks ago he started sleeping through the night, no longer being woken up by Dean's screams born of nightmares. He remembered the shock he felt the first time he woke up to see 8:00 AM on the clock and his brother sleeping soundly in his bed.

Sam said nothing, pleased with the lack of bags under Dean's eyes.

The next four days Sam's shock remained, but without any negative side effects shown he saw no need to bring it up. And by the sixth day he took peaceful nights as the new normal.

The angel didn't notice Sam's open eyes. He didn't even really seem to notice his presence. He just continued with the comfort.

And with a final look for confirmation that he really saw what he did, Castiel easing his brothers nightmares away, Sam closed his eyes again. Still not completely understanding, but not disturbed by it either. Just confused.

Tomorrow, he decided, he would watch the pair closely.

This was my first time writing fan fiction, so please ignore or kindly alert me of any errors. I'll update this as I can. I would also like to note that I am on Season 5 Episode 18 and this is my first time watching it so please write no spoilers in the comments.
