Sam decided not to mention Cas's consoling to the angel or his brother. In all honesty, he wasn't even sure if Dean knew. Given the hunters discomfort given close contact, Sam doubted his brother had any clue.

So he decided to watch them. Sam had, of course, noticed a few things over the years. For one, Cas was more likely to come when Dean called, though he displayed no animosity towards Sam. He also was surprised at Dean's patience when it came to explaining things to the angel. There were times when he sighed or rolled his eyes, but Dean always made sure everything was clear. And finally, there were the glances.

Exchanges of eye contact were prevalent between the two. They came often and remained longer than they really should have. Most of the time it wasn't even used to gage another's reaction. It was just staring into the others eyes.

He had noticed Dean's discomfort at the Supernatural Convention when "Destiel" was mentioned. He had seemed nervous and a little surprised. Sam was actually surprised by how little it shocked himself. It didn't seem so strange. After all, the couple playing his brother and friend went through the same motions. The same little habits.

Cas had been gone when he woke up. Sam looked around to see Dean tying his shoes, not showing any signs of knowing what happened the previous night, or at least not being bothered by it.

When Cas did come to their motel room to help the brothers find a case as Dean drove the Impala, Sam noticed the usual. Eye contact, explanations, and when he first flew in, close contact.

But something he hadn't seen before, he noticed now. The glances weren't always mutual. Sometimes Dean would just watch Cas. And sometimes Cas would just watch Dean.

Dean had dropped Sam and Cas at the motel as he went to check out recent grave robberies. Sam remained to do research and Cas just sat on Dean's bed as he read John Winchester's journal.

After about an hour and a half of comfortable silence, Sam decided to speak up.

"Hey Cas? Can I ask you something?"

"Yes." Cas responded simply, eyes not leaving the page.

"Why were you in our room last night?"

At this Cas looked up.

Sorry it's slightly short. I'm listening to Catch Me if you Can for the first time and want to pay more attention to the lyrics which is a bit difficult when writing. I'll try to make it longer next time.
