It's my fifth year at Hogwarts, By this time everyone calls Hogwarts their home but not me. Not me.

I dragged my trunk to the train, my mother hugging me and bidding me goodbye
"Write to me every week! Do all your homework and don't be friends with the wrong sort. Ok, Marabel?", My mum instructed.
"Yes, mum. I know" I said rolling my eyes

If only she knew I barely even had friends forget friends with the wrong sort but this year I will change that. I had to.

I climbed on board the train starting hooting and whistling and before I knew it my mum was just a waving speck left behind. I sighed walking past compartments hoping to find one of my Gryffindor classmates They will surely let me sit with them. During these times I regret not making friends but I can't blame anyone except me. It's hard to lower down my walls and be vulnerable. I'm so used to wearing a mask and pretending, that it becomes my reality.
I saw Parvati Patil in a compartment with Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan.

They looked at me once I opened the door their gazes awkward and nervous.
The silence was so awkward that I could practically feel the pain
"Do you mind if I sit here?" I said pointing to an empty seat.

Seamus looked everywhere other than my eyes and started "Er -actually ..um the thing is-"
"Lavender will be coming soon and we'd like her to sit with us ...sorry"Parvati interrupted
All of them nodded their heads in agreement.
My chest felt tight with embarrassment.
Who was I kidding they barely know me, The only thing we have in common is that we are in the same house.
"That's alright. I'll see you during dinner" I rushed out of the compartment.

I couldn't even think straight. Why oh why did I do that?
I didn't even know them that well and it was obvious that lavender would be coming soon, their best friends.

Ughh I just embarrassed my self. I knew I had to make friends but this was definitely not the way.

I kept walking until I reached the compartment at the very end. I heard a familiar voice.
"It hasn't even been an hour since I met you and you've already started to annoy me !"
"Oh, Hermione you suck the fun out of everything!"
"Harry? Is Ron right? , Do I suck the fun out of everything?"
"Um ... It's ...not like that ...-" Harry responded but before he could continue I opened the door.

Harry mouthed me a 'thankyou'
I nodded and continued
"Hello, Hermione how are you ?"
"Hey I'm doing quite well other than Ron here ... Would you like to sit with us ?"
"I'd love to-" I replied but Hermione interrupted me
"Harry do I suck the fun out of everything?"
Harry stiffened and his gaze was moving between all of us he opened his mouth to start before I rambled
"Hermione you don't suck the fun out of everything. Sometimes we make rather impulsive decisions and you stop us from doing it but you do that for our good "I glared at Ron
"Fine "Ron exasperated throwing his hand in the air as a sign of defeat

Hermione sat there with a smile on her face while I made myself comfortable
I first met Hermione during our first year and I had comforted her when Ron had been rude to her at first when they finally did make up Hermione encouraged me to become close friends with Ron and Harry but I was scared that I couldn't live up to everyone's expectations of the golden trio and I may have been right. I've given them a friendly smile here and there and homework answers but nothing more than that.

After talking about each other's summers and the infamous arrival of death eaters at the quidditch match we reached Hogwarts.

I tried so hard to imagine it as my home but all I could see was a magnificent castle with students and teachers lining up. I had to fit in and make new friendships maybe even a friendly rivalry.

We left the train and entered the great hall. Candles adorned the ceiling.
After the first years had been sorted and the speech was finished the food arrived.
The food was heavenly. After eating canned food and food that I had prepared anything would seem heavenly but this was extraordinary.
There were mashed potatoes, Chicken tossed in some kind of spicy gravy, brownies, and so much more

I stuffed my mouth and ate so heartily that even Ron seemed impressed. When I finally felt full I looked up from my plate and my eyes caught a head of platinum blonde hair, hair so blond it was almost white. The boy looked up and saw me staring his grey eyes searched into mine daring me to hold the gaze but I tore my eyes away and looked at the plate.

Why was my heart beating so fast? Why did I feel nervous and why did my palms feel so sweaty?
I knew that boy, everyone knew that boy
Draco Malfoy, even his name sounded terrifying.
I hadn't really had an encounter with him and for that I'm grateful.
A few snarky remarks here and there when I had bumped into him but that was it
The boy scared me and made every hair on my neck stand. Even his gaze made me feel frightened.

"Marabel ?" Ron asked waving his hand in front of my face
"Were you staring at Malfoy?" He continued. His tone accusing.
My neck snapped up "Of course not he just creeped me out"I reassured him with a small smile

I just lied to him. That was a lie and I can't make friends if I lie to them. Then again I couldn't possibly tell them that I found their rival, Malfoy mesmerizing now could I?

I shook my head free of those thoughts and continued talking to them.
