RECAP:

"Of course not! But you don't always need to be a fucking hero Ashton!" She yelled at me before disappearing into the crowd.

I sucked in a deep breath and raked a hand through my scruffy hair.

Glancing at the distressed boy in front of me, I knew what we would need to do.

"Ecoute, je ne sais pas qui tu es bordel, mais je m'en fiche. Vous m'aiderez à la retrouver et je la ramènerai à la maison. Après ce soir, je ne veux plus revoir ton putain de visage. D'accord?"

("Look, I don't know who the hell you are, but I don't care. You will help me find her and I will bring her home. After tonight, I don't want to see your fucking face again. Okay?")

-Feel free to play the song when you want... but I've mentioned when it could be played in the chapter :)

ASHTON'S POV:

The journey back home wasn't a long one, however due to the huge properties that sat along the busy road, it was necessary to take the car.

Maisy and Becca talked quietly in the back seats for a moment but as soon as the engine started, Becca's head slipped down the window and her tired eyes effortlessly closed.

I felt reassured that she finally got some rest, even if it was only for 5 minutes whilst we sat in a long line of traffic.

I had to let some air into the car due to the undeniable strong aroma of alcohol. However, the warm breeze didn't have any effect to calm my racing thoughts.

Maisy opened up her phone and began endlessly scrolling when I decided to stick some music on.

I leant my arm on the base of the window and allowed my head to sink into my hand.

The song 'Roslyn' by Bon Iver and St. Vincent began to play throughout the breezy car and I let out a large sigh that was long overdue.

With the night in full swing, the only light was from the series of red carlights that snaked around the road..

A comfortable silence filled the car, along with the low rumble from the engine.

Lightly pressing my foot on the pedal , I revved my car back to life as we inched forward to close the gap with the van in front of us..

As the lyrics were added to the melody, I took comfort in the sadness of the words.

With one hand gripping the steering wheel and the other remaining on the window edge, the car continued to agonizingly slowly creep forward in the queue. Luckily, It wasn't long before we escaped the line of traffic as we arrived at the house and pulled into the driveway.

Turning off the ignition, I shuffled backwards into my seat and shut my eyes, appreciating the new feeling of relief that it brought to me.

My chair dipping slightly caused my eyes to shoot open, revealing Maisy climbing into the front of the car and positioning herself in the passenger's seat.

She glanced back at Becca who was peacefully curled up in a ball against the clear glass.

When she looked back at me, she inched towards me and spoke in a hushed voice.

"I like her. And I see why you do too." She spoke truthfully.

I offered her a half smile before she put a ring-coverved hand through my hair and roughed it up. She then opened her car door and hoped out onto the stone tiles.
