*In the Middle of our last class, Homeroom. Our teacher just let us talk*
I decided to start writing some poetry in my notebook, but I dropped my pen. James was sitting next to me, and I had absolutely no problem with that.
"Oh, I'll get it." James said as he dived for the pen that I dropped. "Here you go, September." He gave me my pen back and continued to do whatever he was doing.
"Whooooaaa!" Someone exclaimed sitting behind me, it sounded like Alissa. "How did you do that?!"
"Do what?!" I asked her as I turned around.
"What you just did." She said while pointing to James.
"What, you mean him?!" I asked while pointing to James.
"Uh, duh!" She exclaimed. "You didn't even have to ask him, he just dived right in, and picked up your pen from the floor! Now either, he's not normal, or you used some type of strange dark, witchy magic just now."
"Oh, well, I guess he's just gentleman." I said.
"Oh NoNoNoNoNo! I know what it is...He's totally into you, girl!" Alissa said quickly and excitedly.
"James?!!" I asked for verification.
"Yes!" She exclaimed. I could see why she'd say that because ever since we met in Algebra, he's been hanging with me and being such a sweetheart. I just assumed that was just his personality, but I realized that it most likely wasn't and Alissa was right. But I didn't want to admit it.
"Your kidding right?" I asked.
"September, you and I both know that's most likely not how he usually acts, and that he's got a major crush on you. Just say it." She said smugly.
I wasn't going to admit.
"Alissa, I don't know, I mean we just met this morning." I told her.
"Doesn't take long for someone to develop a crush." She continued to have a smug look on her face, probably because she knew she was right.
I didn't say anything else because she won the arguement. I glanced over at James, who might've glanced right back. Then sighed. "Why me?" I whispered. I mean, I was glad that he was crushing on me because, I was kind've crushing on him too, but...I mean we literally just met hours ago. I don't even know that much about him. Well, I know that he has a little sister and little brother, his favorite food is spagetti, his zodiac sign is Cancer, and...that's it, that's all I know about him, and he doesn't know a lot about me either.
*Dismissal bell rings, I'm at my locker*
"Have a nice first day?" Heather, my next door neighbor, asked.
"Yeah, did you?" I asked her, just because she's assumed to be untrustworthy, doesn't mean I shouldn't be nice to her.
"Yeah." She said." Well, I'll see ya' tomorrow." She waved as she closed her locker.
"Bye." I said.
"Ready to go?" Oliver asked, standing behind me. With Shane and Victoria beside him.
"Yeah. Let's go." I said while closing my locker.
*At my house, sitting at the dinning room table with Shane and Oliver, doing homework...after the first day of school*
"Would you kids like some chicken tenders for dinner?" Mom asked the three of us.
We said yes.
"Are you about to order over the phone?" Victoria asked sitting on the couch.
"No, I don't have the restaurant's number, I was just going to walk up to the restaurnt since it's just a couple blocks away." She told Victoria.
"I can go get it, if you want. I won't be able to pay for it though." Victoria offered.
"Victoria it's past curfew." Mom reminded her.
"But Mom, it's only 7. Please. You told me that I needed to start being more responible. Doing this will prove that I'm totally responsible. But, I guess I shouldn't, cause it is a little late." Victoria said. She knew exactly how to get Mom to do what she wanted.
"*Sigh*. Fine go ahead. But call me if your stuck there waiting for the chicken for after five minutes, okay?" Mom gave in.
"Alright." Victoria said. Mom began to tell her what she needed to order and gave her the money.
"Okay, brb." Victoria said as she walked out the side door.
*Oliver, Shane, and I were almost finished with our work, paying no attention to the fact that Victoria was gone for 3 minutes. When suddenly, we heard a loud boom and felt a small earthquake for a few seconds*
"What was that?" Oliver asked.
"I don't know, but it didn't sound good." Shane said.
"And it obviously doesn't care that I was writing in pen." I said frustratedly after I ruined what I was writing.
"I'll be right back." Mom said while putting her jacket on. She was about to go outside and see what that was.
Oliver and Shane got up and walked behind her. I just kept sitting at the table and watched the three of them leave, debating on whether I should get up too, or not.
"What happened?" Mom asked one of our neighbors who was outside for the same reason why mom was.
"I don't know, it sounded like an explosion, it must've been close by." Our neighbor said.
Mom's eyes widened. Mom race-walked to her phone and tried to call Victoria. She didn't answer. "C'mon September, we need to go check on your sister. Don't even bother getting your sweater, it's not cold out." She quickly told me. "Oliver, Shane, get in the car!" She told the boys. Mom rushed us all into her new rental car.
When we pulled up near the restaurant Victoria went to. There was nothing but silence and grief. That restaurant was now engulfed in flames.
