"We have to keep what we have in the past. It won't work in the future."

Mike
two years ago ; valentine's day

The space between El and Will was always reserved for me, and I loved it because of how convenient it was. I could put my arm around her while holding hands with him—in the popcorn bowl of course.

We weren't ashamed of each other, and I'm sure the party wouldn't care but I was trying to be a somewhat decent person and at least be with Will in private. But even that started to make me feel like shit afterwards. I was still being unfaithful. It was Valentine's Day and all I wanted to do was take my arm off of El and kiss the hell out of the adorable boy sitting on the other side of me.

He started to come into his face a little more when he got rid of the signature bob and a different style. Now it's like he's a changed man, and I loved him before but now he's got this bad-boy look to him that I couldn't get enough of.

His black leather jacket hung on the doorknob and swished back and forth from the vibrations of the T.V., since Dustin was apparently deaf and kept complaining about the movie being too low.

"Pass the popcorn," He them said, holding his hand out to Will.

Both of our hands were greasy and intertwined, and we hesitated a second before letting each other go. He took his hand out first.

"It's almost empty, I'll go make you some more," He stood up and turned towards us all. "Does anyone want anything else?"

I was the one who always planned all of our get togethers, and so about a day before we hung out I'd go to the store and pick up the snacks that everyone liked. Pringles and Hershey's for El, Cheeto's and nougat for Dustin, Reeces's and ritz crackers for Will, and Lucas liked pop tarts and cheez-it's.

"Can we just get a refill of everything?" El suggested, throwing a wrapper in the small trash can next to her leg. She and Will were the only ones who cleaned up after themselves. Dustin and Lucas were animals.

"And some napkins!" Dustin added.

Will and I locked eyes. Just by looking at the redness forming on his nose, I knew what he was trying to do.

"Can you help me Mike? It's just like a lot of stuff..."

"Oh—yeah. Sure."

He didn't have to ask me twice, which was half of the problem right there. Once we're up the stairs, I followed him to the kitchen and started taking things out of the pantry while he rinsed his hands in the sink.

After he ripped a paper towel off the holder and wiped them off, he turned to me and pulled me closer to him by the waist. This bottom was starting to get bold.

"I wish you were my Valentine." He whispered, brushing a stray piece of hair behind my ear and smiling sweetly. The hand that was on my hip glided down to my back pocket, basically grabbing my ass. I melted like I always did when he'd touch my like that, and it made what I was about to do ten times harder than I wanted it to be.
