"See you Monday."
Tendou spent the entire walk to the train station in a daze. It was a state he had found himself in more often lately. He still had difficulty coming to terms with the fact that it seemed that all he ever wished for since elementary school was finally happening.
As he reflected on the day, from the moment he almost had a panic attack waiting for you to open the door, to him actually feeling comfortable enough to wander around your living room and ask you to game with him, he wondered what was happening to him and how much he would change in the future.
He had never had this much fun with anyone else before and was discovering a side to him that even he hadn't known. He couldn't wait for next weekend to get to do it over again.
He couldn't wait for Monday to see you in class and to get to go to volleyball practice.
As he stood at the station he realized he couldn't wait even a moment longer to speak with you again and he pulled out his phone. He had to think a bit about what to say and after deliberating for a while he went with: 'What did you get for dinner (・ヘ・)?'
It took a whole ten minutes for you to reply and he had already boarded his train when you did.
'Salmon and mentaiko over rice... I don't even like mentaiko... (⌣_⌣")'
He couldn't help but snort at your reply.
'Why would you pick something that you don't even like? (*≧▽≦)ノシ))'
His train was fairly busy, but he didn't pay any heed to the people around him as he stared at his screen, waiting for you to reply to his message.
'I wasn't really paying attention.'
His first instinct already told him that that was unlike you. He brushed the feeling off though since it was so difficult to judge emotions and feelings from text messages. That's why he liked to use emoji a lot, it made it much easier to convey the right tone of what you were trying to say.
There was also the fact that he honestly didn't know you that well yet, and while he was generally very perceptive, he didn't want to make a fool out of himself by wrongfully judging your state of mind.
Since he wasn't sure what your mood was he figured that teasing you a little would be the safest course of action.
'Are you that distraught over me leaving? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)'
He had no idea how close on the mark he actually was with his little comment. And your next reply made him think about just that for a while.
'Yeah ( ˃̣̣̥᷄◡˂̣̣̥᷅ )'
He took back what he had thought about emoji earlier. This one confused the hell out of him. The first meaning he thought of was that the notion was so funny to you that you laughed so hard you cried.
Another option was that you actually meant it seriously, which meant that you were really sad about him leaving. That was out of the realm of possibility for him though, otherwise, he would have never teased you like that.
That left him with the last option, that you were just going along with him. Which was how he decided to interpret it in the end.
'Hang on until tomorrow evening! Σ(゜ロ゜;)'
He kept on sending lighthearted messages, but in the back of his mind, he still felt uneasy about the whole situation.
'_ :('ཀ'」 ∠):_ I'll do my best...'
With a chuckle, he pushed the negative feelings away and typed a response again.
'Go go! ✺(^▽^✺) ✺(^O^)✺ (✺^▽^)✺ Go go!'
