Jealousy

Yang paces around the dorm as Blake tries to calm her "they should be back by now" Yang says, clearly concerned as to why her sister hasn't returned.
"Yang she's probably lost track of time with Penny" Blake explained in an attempt to calm the yellow haired girl. Wiess scoffed at the suggestion and rolled her eyes. This earned a sturdy glare from Yang "what's your problem lately" she yells "you've been acting weird ever since Penny started going here."
Wiess' eyes widen "that's preposterous."
"No it's not just now you act like this whenever we're around Penny" Blake contributes "you always act so annoyed whenever we're around her or she's mentioned."
"I have no idea what you're referring too" Wiess states as she crosses her arms. Blake and Yang glance at each other before turning their attention back to the white haired girl "do you not like Penny or something?" Yang questions.
Wiess' eyes dart to the left "I have no problem with Penny" Wiess says. Yang and Blake think for a moment before Blake's eyes widen with realisation "is it because she spends so much time with Ruby?"
Wiess begins to blush "no that silly why would I care about her spending time with Ruby?"
Yang and Blake glance at each other before yang starts to laugh "ice queen has a crush, ice queen has a crush" she sings while jumping around the dorm that makes Blake giggle and causes Wiess's face the get redder.
"S-shut up" Wiess stutters as Yang and Blake laugh more, making Wiess bury her face in her pillow.
"Seriously though" Yang says wiping a tear from her eye "do you have a crush on Ruby?"
Wiess shifts in her bed not answering
"It's okay if you do" Blake adds "we're just curious."
Wiess looks at the other members of her team and takes a deep breath "yes I have a crush on Ruby" she admits "at least I'm pretty sure I do, I'm not really familiar with romantic feelings but I'm pretty sure a crush is what best describes my feelings for Ruby."
She looks to see Yangs eyes seemingly sparking "this is great" she says excitedly "we gotta find a way to get you two together."
This makes discomfort swirl in Wiess' stomach "don't bother she says quietly" to which Blake perks up with a skeptical look in her eye "why?" She asks.
Wiess can feel tears threatening the corners of her eyes as she thinks about Ruby and Penny "don't tell me I have to spell it out to you."
Yang and Blake have confused looks on their faces that makes Wiess sigh with annoyance "Ruby has a crush on Penny" the girl in white admits. Earning herself looks of sympathy from both her teammates. "You must've seen the way she looks at her" Wiess continues "the way her eyes light up whenever she's around her, the sound of love in her voice when talking about her, the excitement that emanates from her every time we go to see Penny"
Yang and Blake nod along knowing exactly what their friend is talking about.
"Plus" Wiess says "you saw them at the dance."

Flashback

Ruby was hanging with Penny at the party. They had just successfully convinced Pietro to allow Penny to go to beacon, all they had to do was convince Ozpin and Ironwood. Ruby knew it wouldn't be an easy task but she didn't care, that was a problem for tomorrow. Right now Ruby was just admiring how beautiful Penny looked. Ruby already thought her robotic friend was cute but in her light green dress she looked down right gorgeous.
"Ruby is everything alright" Penny asked, snapping Ruby back to reality "you've been staring at me for 2 minutes and 37 seconds."
Ruby's face turned a bright red as she fumbled over her words trying to form and an apology. Ruby's flustered nature made Penny let out the most adorable giggle that almost made Ruby pass out on the spot.
"Sorry for staring Penny" Ruby laughed putting her hand behind her head "it's just you look so beautiful tonight."
Penny's eyes widened and Ruby realised what she had said "crap" she thought to herself. She had only meant to give Penny a small compliment not tell her she was beautiful, she thought she came across too strong but Penny just looked to the side and smiled, slightly obscuring her face with her hand.
"Well Ruby, you too look fantastic" Penny replied which made Ruby's blush return 10 times stronger.

Penny was looking around the room in awe. "So this is a party" she said fascinated by her surrounding "I've never been to a real one before. Say friend Ruby, why are people leading each other to the middle of the room?"
"They're taking them to dance" Ruby informed her friend "at party's someone will take their date to the floor and dance with them."
"Date?" Penny asked curiously.
"Oh that's the person you come to the party with." Ruby explained.
"So are you my date?" Penny asked the girl in red which made Ruby blush so hard it felt like her head would melt from the heat.
"N-no we j-j-just ca-came as friends Penny" Ruby stuttered out.
"Oh okay" Penny said looking disappointed at this response.
"Well we could still dance if you wanted" Ruby said feeling bad about disappointing Penny.
The girl in question eyes lit up at the suggestion and she immediately grabbed Ruby's hand and led her to the dance floor.
"Okay now how do we dance?" Penny asked.
"Oh wow well you see" Ruby said embarrassed that she would have to explain it. "Well you take this hand" she grabbed penny's hand and placed it in her own waist "and put it here, then you take your other hand and place it on my shoulder." The two started to slow dance shoe gazing into each other's eyes. It was a struggle at first as Penny stood on Ruby's feet but the robotic girl quickly got a handle of it.

The two girls started dancing faster adding more techniques to the routine. Ruby span Penny around before bringing her in close so their faces were inches apart, they moved their body's in perfect harmony. Penny successfully dipped Ruby back who lifted her leg with perfect form. Then Penny lifted Ruby into the air and catching her without issue. They continued to dance for a few minutes finishing with Penny throwing Ruby into the air, catching her and spinning so the two ended up in their feet ands intertwined. As they finished they revived a massive round of applause form the other party members that made Ruby blush as she lead Penny to the side of the room, now thoroughly exhausted.
"That was so much fun" Penny squealed excitedly "we have to do that again some time."
"Yeah we will definitely" Ruby said in between pants.
"Thank you for dancing with me Ruby" Penny said with a happy look in her eyes.
"Of course Penny" she relied "I had fun."
Penny kissed Ruby on the cheek which made her blush more than she thought possible and sent bolts of electricity shooting thorough her body. "I can't wait until next time"
"Me neither Ruby said happily." Still feeling butterflies dance in her stomach.

Wiess stood on the second floor. She had seen the whole dance Ruby and Penny had put on and the subsequent kiss Penny had placed on Ruby's cheek. Wiess clutched the note in her hand and tore it to pieces and through it off the balcony, it had been an invitation from Wiess to the dance that she had intended on giving to Ruby. She felt unfair resentment towards the orange haired girl. It wasn't her fault Ruby had feelings for Penny but Wiess just wished she had those feelings for her. She wiped a tear from her eye.
"Hey Wiess are you alright?" She heard a voice behind her. She turned, met with the familiar face of Jaune standing at the door with a clear concerned look on his face.
"I'm fine Jaune" she lied but Jaune saw right through it.
"It's okay" he reassured her "you don't have to tell me."
Wiess was appreciative of him not prying but she did want to talk about it at least a little.
"There was... someone I wanted to ask to the dance with me" Wiess began as Jaune closed the balcony door so no one would hear. "But they... ended up coming with someone else."
"Do you think they have feelings for that person?" Jaune asked.
Wiess thought for a moment "I think they do but haven't realised it yet." She answered honestly.
"Do you think there is a chance that they could develop feelings for you instead?" He continued.
Wiess pondered this for a moment before responding "it's possible but unlikely, they way she looks at the other girl, the way she makes her laugh and blush, I have no doubt that the two of them love each other, but just don't know it yet." Wiess felt tears began to roll down her face as Jaune pulled her into a hug. Usually Wiess would've rejected this but in this case she was just so happy to be comforted and so upset over her feelings for Ruby that she hugged him back and cried into his chest.

Return to present

Weiss finished recounting her experience of the dance to her teammates as they looked at her with sadness and empathy in their eyes.
"Wiess we are sorry we had no idea you had such strong feelings for Ruby" Blake said in an attempt to comfort her friend.
"Well it doesn't matter anyway" Wiess said with slight anger in her voice "Ruby likes Penny and that's the end of it."
"Wiess it doesn't have to-" yang began before a knock at the door interrupted them. The knock had been quiet and sounded like someone had knocked with their feet.
Yang opened the door to see Penny carrying Ruby in a bridal pose. Ruby had fallen asleep in Penny's arms and was resting her head in the girls shoulder.
"Please don't make much noise" Penny urged in a hushed tone "I don't want to wake her." Penny made her way to Ruby's bed and with the help of  Yang was able to get Ruby into bed without waking her.
"What took you so long?" Yang whispered angrily.
"I'm sorry" Penny said sheepishly "we got caught up, we will tell you all about it in the morning." Penny promised as she climbed into the makeshift hammock that the group had constructed for her to sleep on.
Wiess stared at her sleeping team leader, she had looked so peaceful asleep in Penny's arms, filling Wiess with the gut wrenching feeling she recognised as jealousy. Wiping away more tears Wiess turned over in her bed and fell asleep.

Authors note: this was an extra long charter I know but I had a lot of stuff I wanted to cover here, specifically I wanted to go into more detail about the dance itself and get a couple of perspectives on it.
I do wanna ask do you guys wanna see more of the other teams like team JNPR, CFVY and SSSN or would you rather have the story be more focused on team RWBY+ Penny?
P.S I k know I suck at describing dance scenes but I wanted to include so just imagine a super in sync complicated routine or something idk.
