The first-year sorting was over, McGonagall took the stand, as the newly appointed headmistress. Her green robes were touching the floor, "I would like to commence this year at Hogwarts by saying that we shall maintain peace and happiness, let's be happy and make the most of our lives by honouring those who are not with us anymore."

Ron and Ginny, sighed. Hermione put her hand on Harry's shoulder and gave him a smile. They are still with you, they love you, they don't blame you, Harry kept repeating it in his mind and trying to convince himself.

"With that thought, I would like to present our head girl, Hermione Granger and head boy, Harry Potter."

There was a round of applause when Harry and Hermione stood and walked over towards the podium, standing under it. Hermione wore a professional smile which Harry recognised from her various encounters with the Ministry and other high-ranking professionals.

So Harry tried to look less dumbfounded and straightened his back. He couldn't help his messy hair and he was very well aware of the glasses gliding down his nose in a slow movement. However, he managed to look responsible and under the gaze of many without going into a state of panic.

McGonagall kept listing the prefects and encouraged the younger students to ask for help. Other guidelines as usual. In that moment everything started feeling like it was almost the way it was.

Harry and Hermione rushed towards the dormitory they were getting, nothing seemed to dampen their excitement as soon as they realised that they would get their own space. While being in Gryffindor common room was fun, this was going to be way better.

The woman on the portrait was beautiful, her gown was made of pink silk and a three-tiered hoop skirt with white scalloped lace. She wore tall white silk gloves, and held a feathered pink-and-white fan to her chest. She had dark chocolate curls and her voice seemed to match the glamorous aura around her.

"Oh the famous Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, welcome to the head student chambers. You are not allowed to share your password with more than three people and those can be registered with me and will be allowed entry. So what do you want the password to be?"

"Amor Vincit Omnia" Hermione decided

"Love conquers all" the portrait translated, then after giving a slight nod she let the students in. It was beautiful, there was a fireplace with white marble and within moments it was agreed upon that they would decorate the wall above with pictures.

There was Hermione's family, Harry's only family picture, a picture of Sirius and Remus, one of the twelve year old golden trio. In the centre was a moving picture with Harry and Hermione, Ron running towards them after setting the camera but tripping as the flash went of.

The two bedrooms were right opposite to each other, both were quiet similar. Heavy red velvet curtains on either side of the glass leading to a small balcony. The yellow crystals along with the railing. A huge bed next to a mahogany cupboard.

"This is-" Hermione began.

"Amazing!" Harry finished

After unpacking, Harry sat on the sofa, sketching something as he took on the new hobby. He could feel the urge to go to Hogsmeade and get a drink, the boy tried to control himself not wanting his friends to know.

Hermione raised her head from the book she was reading, "about the three people, who should they be?"

"Ron, definitely needs to be one" Harry said, and the other girl quickly nodded.

"Other two can be decided later, if we start seeing someone" Hermione said, trialing off towards the end.

With the dancing flames of fire, he could see his best friend clearly and she was blushing.

"Do you like someone Mione?" he asked, sitting straight now, trying to change his face to the intimidating look he learnt from Hermione.

"Well, no- it's too soon to tell. It's just I was talking to her today and it felt nice" Hermione said, hesitating and cracking.

Harry laughed looking at his friend get flustered, he raised an eyebrow and asked "Parkinson?"

Hermione glared at him and said, "Shut it, Har."

He raised his hands in defeat and they soon went out for the daily rounds.

"You know her hair used to be bushy but I accidentally touched them today and they were so soft. They definitely match the colour of her eyes. She's so smart too, but I love how she is modest about it, definitely not a stuck up know-it-all..." Pansy kept talking to her to inattentive best friends.

"Just the way you like your woman" Blaise responded with a smug smirk.

"Doesn't matter, she is straight. It was on the daily prophet, she is dating Weasel" Pansy said with a slight disappointment.

Harry also feels himself go further down a spiral of insanity. He recalls a bolt of electricity passing by as Harry caught Draco hand and shook it, and as he raised his head to see Harry smiling with a tilted head. Draco thinks there was an adoration in the raven's eyes and he can't help but let himself wonder if it was for him.

His thoughts confused him. Draco wanted to senselessly punch Harry, ask him why he was tugging at his heartstrings in a way nobody ever managed to before. He wants to give comfort, leave behind his past self that he has come to detest. He wanted to seek out the raven and ask him about the nightmare he was sure Harry had on the train.

The war was not easy on anyone, now to think about it Harry had not been seen by anyone anywhere except Draco's trial. Leave them, kill me is what Harry had muttered in the train, so low that Draco is still not sure he heard the other boy right, but with so many deaths surrounding the boy's past Draco couldn't help but wonder how frequent these dreams were.

"Oh, I don't want to give them detention" Draco heard Hermione say as he snapped out of his thoughts and noticed the people they ran into.

"Head boy, head girl it is a pleasure running into you" Blaise said taking a bow.

"I just might let you go for your hospitality" Harry replied after a hearty laugh. Suddenly Draco felt strange not being the one who made Harry laugh and unknowingly shot a glare towards Zabini.

"Green suits you Granger" Pansy said with a wink. Hermione stiffened and looked down, noticing the green nightgown she wore under her Gryffindor robes.

"Looks like you Slytherins are quite polite. Just please go back to your rooms I don't want to bust you guys" Hermione said, conveniently not meeting Pansy's eyes.

Draco spoke for the first time, "very well then" and started to leave.

Blaise looked up cheerfully. Pansy might have said that Hermione was straight, but his gaydar had always been exceptional. Even if this would lead to nothing, Blaise wanted to help Pansy out and asked, "what are you guys doing for the weekend?"

Hermione and Harry looked at each other and shrugged, shaking their heads.

"Well let's go to Hogsmeade, all of us, even Weasel can come. It will be fun."

Harry eagerly replied with a "yeah sure" completely oblivious to the other three getting shy and glancing towards the ceiling or the ground.

Hermione broke the silence with "sounds good" and Pansy just nodded her head and turned around.

Draco lifted his head and found Harry's eyes borne into him, awaiting an answer so he mustered up the last bit of confidence he had left for the day and said, "see you there Potter" and winked before turning around and leaving a profusely blushing caramel skinned boy behind him.
