 "Ow! Dammit Jamie..."

Jamie had thrown a can at me for no real reason. We had formed this rivalry due to some dumb argument over... Actually I don't remember. But we hate each others guts and everyone just accepts that. 

I looked at Jamie and he was giving me the smile he does when he knows he's done a stupid thing and expects everyone to laugh at it.

Am I analysing this rivalry too much?

I rolled my eyes and sat down at my table with Willow and Olivia. Olivia looked at Jamie "Why do you hate that guy so much?" She asked. "He know what he did." I said. Willow looked at me blankly "You can't remember can you?" I rolled my eyes "He knows what he did!"

I didn't wang to admit it but my rivalry with Jamie was the most fun I had had in ages. It always felt dramatic or over-exaggerated and that mad it fun. But for some reason I always wondered how far Jamie was willing to take it...

 "Oi Vincent."

 I turned and saw Pearl. "Jamie wants ya to sit wit' him. C'mon, we 'ave a spare seat." I rolled my eyes "What, did star-boy place a woopy cushion on it?" I laughed. 

No one laughed. Well, not like I was trying

I walked over with Pearl and sat. Lewis and Jeremy were there too, and of course Mr Haucet himself. 

He threw another can at me and smiled.

I looked at the others for some answers as to why I was here but they were all as clueless as I was. "Vincent!" Jamie said, elbowing me. It hurt. "I'm glad you're here, now I can make my announcement!"

 I raised a brow "Announcement?" 

Jamie ignored me and raised his juice box. "I, Jamie Haucet, am leaving this school for a few months!"

This is the important thing?

I looked at him "Jamie, if this is a joke this isn't funny." Jamie rolled his eyes "It's not a joke. But I'm going to see my birth parents. I'm heading to... Somewhere." 

I rolled my eyes "Like I care."

 I cared. I cared a lot.

Jamie started making some dumb speech with his juice box so I headed back to Willow and Olivia. "What happened?" Olivia asked. "You didn't hear him?" I muttered "Jamie said he's leaving the school for a bit and going to his birth parents place. I didn't know he was adopted, if I was I would've pulled that card on him... Um... Willow?"

 Willow looked terrified. I wasn't sure what to think. Then she grabbed my arm "Vincent... A moment."

What's going on...

 Willow took my into the hall and looked at me "Vincent, don't freak out when I say this and don't tell Jamie I said it... But..."

 Do I really want to hear this..?

 "Jamie's birth parents have... Passed on."

Fuck

 "Well then what the hell did he mean?!" I yelled, grabbing Willow. "U-Um... Well maybe he's just confused..." 

I felt terrified. Was Jamie going to... No he wouldn't... Would he?

 "I gotta talk to him." I mumbled. Willow patted me on the back "You do that Vincent!"

Gotta do it now gotta do it now...

It was the end of the school day if I didn't talk to Jamie now I'd probably never do it again

Whilst I was running out the gate I saw him "Jamie! Jamie stop!" I yelled. He turned "Vincent! What do you want a can thrown at your head again?" 

Oh yeah I forgot to mention he threw a can at me another ten times

I sighed "Jamie, don't do it. I know we fight a lot but that's all dumb banter." Jamie raised an eyebrow "Vincent? What do you mean?" I kicked him "You know what I mean! Jamie I know I call you names and make fun of your hair but it's no reason to kill yourself!"

...

 "Seriously, what are you talking about?"

I looked at him weirdly "What are you talking about? You said you were going to visit your birth parents but you're birth parents are dead... So... So..." Jamie gave a saddened smile "Oh, that. You've got the wrong idea Vincent. Yeah my parents are dead, but I was going to visit their grave. Completely different."

Why didn't you fucking say that in the first place...

There was a mixture of relief and annoyance. But mainly relief. 

 Jamie then seemed to realise something "Wait a minute... Were you worried about me?" And he was doing the goofy smile again. I blushed "Oh shut up!" Jamie elbowed me "You were worried! I knew it!" He hugged me. "Get off!" I said, although I didn't try and get him off myself. 

 "Sorry" I murmured. Jamie laughed "Don't apologise. It's fun being rivals! It's like one of those stories where the people who hate each other become lovers." 

...

 "I said that out loud didn't I?"

 "Whatever"
