The next morning Hermione and Katherine got their things together and began on their way to classes. Their first-class was Transfiguration with Professor McGonagal, which Ron and Harry were late for. Then they had potions with Professor Snape who seemed to really dislike Harry more than anyone else in the room.

Afterward in the Great Hall, they all began working on assignments and some were eating. Seamus was trying a spell and was getting nowhere with it when the mail finally came in. Theia dropped a letter to Katherine from her mum and dad. Instantly Katherine became nervous. Peggy probably wrote them the news last evening to express owl.

Noticing my look of discomfort one of the twins, Fred she thought, yes it was Fred asked,

"What's wrong Katherine? Didn't get a Howler did you?"

Thankfully no it was not a howler, she couldn't picture her mother ever sending a howler like some of the ones they'd received from Draco's mother over simple misunderstandings at ministry parties.

"No, thank Merlin, it's a regular letter. It's just I wasn't expecting a letter so soon."

Fred gave a comforting grin much like her brother would in these situations

"I'm sure it'll be fine Katherine."

Sighing, the young Gryffindor carefully opened the letter. Analyzing to see which parent wrote it, easily recognizing it as her mother's calligraphy.

Dear Kitty,

Both Peggy and Edmund told me you were sorted in Gryffindor. Congratulations! I always knew you were more determined than Margaret and Edmund. Your Father is proud as well, a little sad his kitty-cat isn't a Ravenclaw, but do not fret dear after all a hat sorted you.

I hope your classes are going well and you are getting enough to eat. If you need anything don't be afraid to ask your siblings. Edmund said you looked absolutely ready to faint when the hat yelled out your house. Make good friends, and please stay out of trouble, be kind and be respectful, and we'll see you when you come home for Christmas.

Love,

Mother

PS: I heard Harry Potter is there make sure to show him some kindness and if Draco gives you any trouble just ignore him.

As soon as she finished the letter she sighed with relief, her parents weren't upset. Folding the letter and stowing it in her satchel I looked up to the grin of Fred Weasley. It was at this moment she realized she was smiling as well.

"So I take it with that grin, no bad news?" he said cheerfully.

"No bad news," Kathy confirmed.

After lunch, the first years had flying lessons with Madam Hooch.

Harry was the first of the lot to get his broom in his hand. Hermione looked a bit upset; he figured it out before her. Draco was second and he looked smug as usual. Everyone was figuring it out and poor Ron got hit in the face.

Next was mounting brooms and the goal was to try to get off the ground and hover with their broom. Neville surprisingly went up first but then he started going too high and lost control very easily. And he ended up falling and injuring his wrist. Kathy noticed out of the corner of her eye Malfoy picking up a clear ball...wait a moment that was Neville's he got it during lunch from his grandmother. As soon as Madam Hooch and Neville were out of sight Malfoy ever so "kindly" said
