Two Days Later.

It's finally Wednesday. My date with
Cece is today. Mom received a text from the shool yesterday telling us that the school is closed till next week. The text said nothing about the principal. The real reason we're not going to school.

I didn't tell mom the real reason we have a week off. I know that I should have, but I was afraid she'd punish me and I'd miss my date today. So I kept quiet. One thing I am happy about is that mom finally told Caleb the truth about dad. Which is good and I think he too the news well. I think he's okay with the whole situation.

My phone rings while I'm still getting ready. It's Cece's message telling me that she's on her way to the restaurant. I text back telling her I'll meet her there. I do some final checks on my outfit to see how I look.

"How do I look?", I ask Caleb.

He gives me a thumbs up and I grab my things and head out, telling mom that I'll text her when Cece and I need a ride to the mini golf alley.

****

I wait for Cece at the restaurant and Zoey offers me a drink. I know Cece texted saying she'll be here, but I got here faster than her. I'm sit at a different table than the one mom, Caleb and I sit at. I raise my hand to show Cece where I'm sitting. She looks really hot wearing her short white dress. She also has white sneakers on and a cap.

I stand to greet her and we hug. Zoey brings us the menus and we sit down and order. We both order burgers and fries and a cool drink with a milkshake on the side. There's an awkward silence as we eat. I feel like the first time I went on a date with her. I felt all nervous and I didn't know what I could talk to her about.

I look at her for a bit. She looks the same as the time I told her I liked her.

"How's Caleb doing?", she asks.

"Oh he's okay. Better than okay, he's back home with us.", I say.

For the first time in a really long time I find myself unable to find a topic we could talk about. We'd been dating for months, we broke up and now we're back together. She's been my friend and the only person I always spoke to when I had problems.

I look at her mesmerized by how amazing she iss. She's looks awesome and she has a loving personality. I'm really lucky to have a girlfriend like her, a friend like her too.

She notices me staring at her and smiles. "Your food is not gonna finish itself.", she says. "What are you thinking about?"

"I'm thinking about us. And how I almost lost you for good.", I say. She holds my hand. "Did I tell you how beautiful you look?"

She giggles. "Thank you you're the sweetest person I've ever known."

"What are your plans for the rest of the week?", she asks.

"I don't know. I'll probably spend time with Caleb and mom and help her with stuff.", I say. There's a lot of stuff mom needs help with.

"I'll probably be asking you out on a date again.", I say.

She laughs. "And I'll say yes every time."

After we've finished our meals and milkshake I call mom to pick us up.

****

Cece and I are sitting at the back while mom drives us to our mini golfing and Caleb is also riding with us. Mom says he has to drive with us because she has to keep an eye on him. And mom told him to "behave" while he's with us, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Caleb keeps asking Cece all sorts of questions like, how long me and her have been dating and wether I'm a good boyfriend and treating her right.

I thought these we're questions mom would want to ask, but no, Caleb is asking the questions today and he is really annoying.

****

"Okay I'll pick you up when you're done.", mom says when we get out of the car. She drive off with Caleb.

I'm really gald Caleb's gone now. I can have my peace and not be embarrassed in Cece's presence. I look for the instructor when we enter the mini golf center. Cece goes to freshen up while I get our things. She returns looking really hot. I can't even believe what I'm seeing and my jaw drops when I see her in a crop top and shorts.

We decide to make a bet before we begin playing the game. The person who looses asks the winner out on the next date. I find out that Cece is really good at golf after having lost to her at many holes and ending up losing the bet.

So I end up having to the one asking Cece out next time. I call mom to pick us up when we're finished.

****

"Did you beat my brother at your game?", Caleb asks when we enter the car.

"Yes I did ", Cece says.

"Of course Cece will beat him.", mom says. "Girls are better than guys at everything."

I feel like they are ganging up on me. We drop Cece off at her house. I get out and walk her to the door and we take a while walking slowly and just talking before saying goodbye.

"I enjoyed our date today.", she says.

"I did too."

For a while we stare into each other's eyes none of us speaking. I don't even notice her leaning in until our lips touch. When I come back to my senses I keep recalling the feeling of what just happened.

I'm can't help the smile forming on my lips. Mom definitely saw this and Caleb. He will never stop talking about this kiss. Cece kissed me. On. The. Lips.

"Okay I will call or text you later.", I say.

"Okay.", Cece walks though the door and I keep looking at her till she closes the door. She opens a window and blows a kiss to me. I make that gesture of catching the heart and blowing a kiss to her too then I walk very slowly to the car.

"You should see yourself. You're glowing.", mom says.

"I feel like I'm glowing. Cece and I just kissed not so long ago.", I say.

Mom and Caleb both die laughing. But I don't care, Cece and I are back together forever this time. I know that we might fight from time to time, but I know we'll be together forever. We'll be best friends forever. Boyfriend and girlfriend, a couple.

****

Caleb and I sit in our room when we get back home. He keeps asking me about Cece and I keep giving him half answers. I can't talk to him right now. I have to think about what Cece and I are going to do on our second date. I lost the bet so I'm asking her out again. I have to come up with a good idea for our second date. A burger and fries at the restaurant won't do well this time. I need to do something I know she'll like. Maybe a picnic or a dancing class somewhere. Ugh! This is much harder than I though it would be.

****

"Max, Caleb can I speak to you for a bit?", mom says and comes in the bedroom.

I sit up on the bed and Caleb comes to sit at the lower part of the double bed. Mom sits inbetween us, covering both of us in her arms. Her eyes are shining and she looks like she's about to cry. She takes a deep before the words come out.

"I signed the divorce papers and so has your dad.", mom says between sobs. I look at her and wipe her tears. I really don't like seeing mom like this.

She hugs us tighter and we lay our heads on her shoulders. Her tears drop on my head and she wipes then quickly when like look up at her.

"Mom you shouldn't hide your sadness.", I say hugging her as tight as I can too. She's really hurting. We're all hurting, Caleb looks to be feeling much better than me and mom.

"I'm going to start going to therapy,", mom says. "and try to find a way forward from here on out."

Mom gives us a kiss a the head. I'm glad mom is going to get help. Professional help. This will serious help her and me and Caleb as well. I know it will take a long time before we're back to the way things were, but I think we'll be okay again. I have hope for us.
