Marceline doesn't have time to deal with your inner conflicts, she's already floating away towards the mountain until you call out to her.
"Marcy wait-!" you shout, catching up with the old woman. "I'm coming with you."
The old woman gives you quick grin, she would congratulate for your bravery but she prefers to save the pat on the back for later. "Let's fly!" Marcy grabs you by the shoulders, lifting you in air like a hawk capturing a mouse.
If you thought flying with Finn was nauseating, now it's a joyride compared to flying with this vampire lady. Despite her advanced age she's soaring through the sky so fast you could feel your eyes tearing up, covering your 1 hour walk into a 10 minute flight. When she finally slowed down you were almost face to face with the mountain side, also catching sight of the angry mob.
"Where could that darn boy be?"
It's too dark to find him at first sight, until your eyes automatically went to the mountain top. "Up there!" you point.
Marcy flew upwards, making you feel vertigo when you accidentally looked down.
"I'm getting doozy-" She complains, her hands trembling.
"Marceline don't think about dropping me!" you say in a panic tone.
"Too late."
The both of you fell like a pair of coconuts from a palm tree. You shut your eyes in fear of breaking your head open like a coconut too, however your fall wasn't deadly by any means. But that didn't make it painless. The layer of snow is enough to break your fall, grasping onto the edges as you crawl your way out of the hole.
It's cold, your teeth start clattering together and your body is shivering but either way your force yourself through the snow after catching glimpse of a gold crown. Even ignoring marceline's cries of help, having fallen headfirst in the snow.
"Finn!" you rush to the fallen boy. Both weak and unconcious.
He doesn't respond at first, reopening his eyes and even rubbing them after seeing you.
"Princess... You came back."
"You saved me from dying of hunger, so I'm just repaying you," you try to keep a straight face, but even then you couldn't fully convince yourself. "Can you stand up?"
Despite his fragile state Finn still gives you an embarrassed chuckle. "Not really, I used up the rest of my strength and energy to try and destroy the castle since... I thought you wouldn't come back."
Upon mentioning it, you raise your head to look behind Finn. Although it's a bit lackluster, the structure itself is outstanding considering it's made out of pure ice and snow. Almost reminiscent of a storybook castle tower. You shook your head, passing Finn's arm over your shoulders as support. "I need to get you out of here, there's a mob on their way."
"(y/n) is okay if you want to leave me here."
You froze on your spot. This is the most you've heard Finn say something rational and honest, just like those peaceful nights when he would overuse his magic and talk normally to you.
"What are you saying? I'm not-"
"I've only been making things hard for you right? I won't be upset if you leave." You're intrigued by at his reasoning, guessing it's because the magic crown doesn't have an influence on Finn at which is all the more dangerous with the mob closing in.
"I'm gonna get you out of here, you saved me from starving so i'll return the favor." you insist, tossing an arm over your shoulder and struggling to carry Finn through the snow. But the fatigue from earlier catches up to you, tumbling and falling to your knees, despite your lack of strength you still hold tight to Finn.
"There he is! that's the guy who ruined our town and covered the world in snow." you heard the mob from behind, most likely a few feet away.
You mentally pray that Marceline gets up and helps you, but she never comes up. The strangers remove Finn from your arms, you try to retrieve him back, pleading that it wasn't Finn's fault but they don't listen. Even pushing you back and knocking you roughly against the ground. You feel cold, but suspiciously enough the coldness is rather specific and even similar.
"Welcome back my child..." Those radioactive green eyes stared back at you, but it's face became more visible, it's appearance reminded you of a cow skull with melted flesh.
"Who are you?! why do you keep coming back to me at the worst moments!?" you shout, frustrated tears running down your face.
"I'm someone who can help you save your friend, that's what you want don't you?" you immediately shut up, eyeing the creature like it's your only option.
You wrap your arms around yourself, trying to recover any sense of warmth. "I'm not a hero, I can't save him by myself." you confess, feeling completely incompetent.
"I'll lend you the help you require, all I need from you is a few items."
"I'll do it."
You bolt awake after what felt like years, but in reality it's probably only been a minute or two. The first thing you saw what Finn's face, or to be more exact, the ice prince. "Princess are you alright? I was terribly worried," he caresses your face.
"I'm fine," you croak. "Wait, where's the mob?"
"Oh, we had a little misunderstanding but then someone came and solved everything. I thought you weren't gonna get a chance to meet him!" the boy said rather happily.
"Who came?" you ask, wondering if your dream was real or not.
Finn extended an arm towards the seemingly immobilized and zombified mob, parting away to let a sickly looking dog with melting flesh walk through and rest his head on Finn's leg. You wanted to yell at the dog, try to get it as far away from you as possible at the sight of the toxic green eyes.
"It's jake! he's alive, isn't that great!" the boy expressed.
A cold shiver ran down your spine, already hearing that voice that haunts you in your dreams. "Greetings, my child."
