Jealousy

You didn't have nightmares that night.

In fact, you slept rather comfortably.

"(y/n)? Are you listening?" HW raised her voice after noticing you drifted off for a moment.

"I uh... Sorry, what were you saying?" you said, a little lost.

"I said if you don't pay attention you'll never get some decent meat." HW scolded you like a teacher.

"My bad."

Days with Finn became more tolerable too.

Slowly but surely you were able to have conversations with him, you'd tell him about how you're able to feed yourself so he wouldn't have to. You haven't told him about HW yet since you didn't want him to get suspicious of you leaving him. Sometimes her name would slip from your lips, but you are quick to brush it off.

"I'm glad to see you're starting to look more healthy (y/n)" Finn comments with a dreamy sigh, admiring you collect the pieces of meat you left to dry for later rations.

You grew accustomed to his compliments so this wasn't out of the ordinary.

"Yeah, If it wasn't for HW I wouldn't be able to do half of these things." you said casually. "She's the best!"

"... Who's HW?" his tone change, acting

You caught wind of the way Finn became serious all of a sudden, was he jealous of you spending time with someone else? There was no way you wanted Finn to go after Hw, no matter how tough she is, Finn is more unpredictable.

"Oh, uhh she's just a friend I had in the village." you say with a wave of you hand, there is a reason why you didn't want to go into detail.

"uh huh." Finn nods slowly before switching back to his usual chirpy  behavior. "Welp, I better get going back to the castle. My princess deserves the best!" he flew off all of a sudden.

You blinked at the switch in Finn's attitude, if you wouldn't know any better you'd say that the ice prince is bothered by the mention of a third party, but then again he always has mood swings.

You stood up, dusting your lower clothes before heading down the trail inside the forest. While Finn works on his castle, this was the perfect opportunity to meet up with your huntress friend.

As you happily made your way downhill you failed to notice a pair of icy blue eyes following you.

Just like usual Huntress was in the middle of her bare camp, packing what looked like dried meat and fur pelts in two backpacks.

"Going somewhere?" you greet the Huntress with a smile.

However the more you studied her empty camp the  more your smiled began to fade. You knew this day would come, but you never thought it would be so soon, you just learned how to hunt small rodents by yourself there's no way you could hunt something larger than a squirrel!

"I've spent enough time here, I have to return to my village eventually." Huntress said solemnly, eyeing you before returning her gaze to the backpacks. "Have you thought about my offer? It's not too late for you to join me and go to the village together."

You bit the bottom of your lip. If she would've offered you this opportunity a month ago you would've accepted it without a second thought, but now, you are hesitant.

"I did..." you admit slowly, eyes occasionally glancing to the mountain uphill.

"And...?" Huntress lingered on, hoping to get an answer from you now.

"I..." you pause in uncertainty, when you reopened your mouth to continue, you were interrupted by the snap of a tree branch behind you.

Huntress became visably tense, her eyes widening behind her mask as she rolled to the side, a block of ice violently tossed in her direction.

You turn around to see the origin of the ice block, feeling your gut drop at the sight of ice Finn floating behind you. And he is furious.

"How dare you attempt to steal my princess away from me!" he shouts, continuously firing ice attacks towards the Huntress.

Huntress is skilled and agile, you notice from her previous teachings, but even at the sight of her attempting to dodge every attack made you worried sick. Huntress retaliates by throwing a dagger towards the ice prince, only to have it frozen in mid air, when that didn't work she rolled in direction of her quiver and took aim with her wooden bow. Finn prepared to block her attack, until you threw yourself between the two of them.

"Both of you, stop it now!" you plead, an obvious crack in your voice. "I can't stand seeing the both of you fight. Huntress, just go."

"But she tried to take you from me! This is unforgivable!" Finn snarls in direction of the young woman, but you held him back.

"Finn, please spare her. She helped me survive and she helped me stay safe. She's in the middle of leaving, isn't that right Hw?" you press your hands against Finn's cold chest, turning your head to look at your friend.

"(Y/n)..." Huntress whispered your name, almost begging you to join her.

But all you could do is give her an sad, apologetic smile. "I'm staying, don't worry about me. Just go, help your family."

The huntress refused to leave you behind with this cold maniac, although you two have met for a short time she took a liking to you, she wanted to keep you safe. But by the looks of it, you're trying to save her too.

You've always been so selfless.

Hw begrudgingly nods in your direction. Carefully collecting her backpacks without breaking eye contact with Finn, her expression towards the young man is that of untrust and dislike. It's as clear as day, and yet it's also reflected in Finn's own face.

"Take care (y/n)." Hw bids you goodbye with a bow, lowering her wooden bow and quiver on the ground as a silent parting gift.

Finn didn't relax nor lower himself to the ground until Huntress disappeared inside the tree foliage. You could feel your eyes growing humid, tears pricking at the corners of your eyelashes as you picked up the wooden bow and quiver, holding it to your chest like it's your most prized possession.
