Chapter 3: Breakfast

I jumped back and the crown fell to the floor. I glared at it. How did it even manage to stick on his head in the first place?

"Father!" I greeted him with a mini curtsy before running into his arms for a hug. I am not usually a lovey-dovey person, but I felt like Nanami came off as such.

"Good morrow, my daughter." He greeted me with an affectionate kiss on the head. Before adding, "But you still haven't answered my question."

"Princes Nanami was trying to help me fix my crown." Lord Lir explained and gestured to his evil crown.

"That was mighty kind of you daughter." He patted my hand and turned to Lord Lir, "I am glad you two are getting along."

"Of course, father. Lord Lir has been such a great help adjusting to life here." I said more for the maid hovering in the hallways than for the King standing before me. ]

"That is music to my ears. Come, let us have breakfast now. You must be famished." But once again, he was not talking to me but Lord Lir. I let my mild irritation roll over me as we walked to the dining hall.

"Lord Lir, after breakfast I would like you to accompany to meeting." The king said, interrupting our silence.

"Of course, Your Majesty." Lord Lir said from behind.

"Actually Father, I was hoping you would let me come instead." I said quietly passing a flock of soldiers huddled together whispering. I know they where most likely not talking about me, but I still felt anxious all the same.

"Maybe next time." He said never once looking at me. "Besides a princess doesn't need to worry herself about such matters."

I felt my temperature rising. I couldn't stop myself when I said, "But a Queen does."

"I agree." Lord Lir said from behind. I turned my head in his direction and smiled. Letting him know I was thankful for his remark.

"Of course, darling." He brushed me off again, "But next meeting. This meeting is very private and unimportant."

If it was so unimportant what is the harm in letting me go. I pouted but did not say anything.

"I know you are upset." The King spoke once again, "But trust me, this meeting really is trivial. I promise you can come to every meeting after this one if you so please." I smiled a little. I guess that's a good deal.

"Alright and I do please. If I am suppose to be leading this country, want to make the most effort." My voice laced with determination.

"That is a remarkable trait for a queen to have." Lord Lir piped up.

"And a wife." My father added and Lord Lir cleared his throat uncomfortably.

I stopped dead in my tracks, "A what?"

The King waved his hand, "In the future you are going to get married. So it is a good quality to have."

I squinted at the profile of my father's face, "I suppose that is true."

"Is anyone else as famished as I am?" Lord Lir broke the tense pause.

I didn't have to answer because my stomach made a grumbled of approval. In embarrassment I held onto my stomach. As if that motion would hide the fact I was starving.

The King laughed, "Then we should not waste anymore time."

We made our way to the dinning hall. The long table inside was laden with food. But not just any food, human food. Since coming to the palace there was only demon food. It tasted as weird as it looked.
