The best part of being in Chicago late at night in December is that you are completely isolated in the beach. I brace myself for the freezing cold temperature of the wave rolling towards me and I'm surprised by how warm it is.

"How?" I say to myself. It's currently below 0 degrees in Chicago and the water is warm. The only way this could be possible is if there's...

"Hey old friend."

"No way." I say shocked. I turn around to face the voice and realize it's none other than my old friend Jordan. The last time I saw her we were both in Los Angeles. " One, how do you still look 21 and two, give me a hug."

"It's so nice to see you! Oh and the warm water that was me, I don't know if you remember but I'm a mermaid" Said Jordan gently pushing away from me. " Oh and about my age appearance, I may or may not have gotten into a fight with a fairy and she gave me the "curse" of eternal life. I have to admit it's been devastating seeing all my family die but after a while it becomes fun. I guess you can say I'm a vampmaid."

"Oh god the horrible puns return." I say grinning. "Wait wait wait do you say fairy?"

"Yeah, I'm not surprised you haven't met one. Fairies and Vampires don't necessarily get along."

"Oh right the whole "fairies blood is sacred" thing. Anyways where are you staying or are you still sleeping on rocks under the sea?"

"Oh haha Vincent, you at least I don't sleep in coffins."

"Well played, well played." I say smiling. "I was about to go to a hotel and then look for a house tomorrow. Do you have a house?"

"Nope I prefer to live in hotels, it's easier that way. More time for me, yanno?"

"Yeah but don't you love a good condo maybe even an overly sized mansion?"

"Vince your sarcasm is showing."

"Are you coming with me or not." I say walking towards my car.

"Fine I'll go with you, but don't start getting any ideas."

"Oh please we've been over this." I say laughing remembering our hilarious past.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

I first met Jordan back in 1972, She was 19 and I was 37 but I looked 22. While I was walking around California I saw her and a man having a loud discussion. I decided to step in once I realized the man was trying to undress Jordan. Once I realized the man was drunk I just punched him in the jaw and asked Jordan if the man did anything to her.
"I was fine you know, but no he didn't do anything to me."

"A simple thanks would've been fine, teenagers these days." I say rolling my eyes and walking away.

"Excuse you! I am a legal adult, I am 19."

"And I'm 37." I said walking back slightly irritated.

"Hah, are you a vampire or something?"

"Actually yes, and if you're going to be a mermaid be more discreet." I said pointing towards the purple and blue scales around her legs.

"Hmph."

"Goodbye now." I say with a hint of sass.

Turning to face Jordan on the bed next to mine I laugh at all of our amazing memories.
