Isla sat by her phone all night, wondering why Charles suddenly just gave up wanting her. She understood that they had an argument but she had too much pride in her blood to call him first. She prayed that he was at least thinking of her but he was probably asleep by now. She let out a long groan and curled up in the corner beside the phone. "How can I be your friend when I know the way you taste?" she whispered, imagining she was talking to Charles. She heard the door rattling as if someone was opening it so naturally, she stood up and wiped her face quickly. When Isla opened her eyes again, she saw Alyssa's beaming face in front of her. "LA is still over rated and you can't convince me otherwise." she chuckled. "How have you been? Anything happen since I was gone?" she asked going in for a hug. "As if you don't know." Isla scoffed.

"No seriously, I lost my phone two days ago. What happened?" Isla opened up her phone and showed Alyssa the photos, the articles and everything in between. Alyssa's smile turned into a mischievous grin. "Did you bang him?" Isla gasped at the sudden question. "Alyssa!"
"Well did you?"
"Of course I did- wait no-" Too late, she already said enough to set Alyssa off. "Is he good? When did this happen? I bet he's better than Max like most things. Where was Lara?" The questions just came tumbling in and Isla didn't know how to answer them all. "Firstly, Lara was and still is with Max. Secondly, can we tone it down with the questions? Yes he was good, that's all you're getting." Isla chuckled to herself. Alyssa squealed at the scandalous information. "Oh shit, Michael probably knows." She continued on. "He flew out from LA he was that angry. Max knows too, so full of himself." Isla said walking to her kitchen island and pouring herself a drink. "Really? How come?" Alyssa mused, wondering what Max must have done this time. She had to admit, the feuds Isla and Max had were quite entertaining. She would pay to watch them fight. "Well, he called me this morning and said I basically went and fucked Charles because I was jealous of him and Kelly." Alyssa laughed as if it was a hysterical joke. "He literally went and banged Kelly when she broke up with Daniil. Weren't they apparently friends?" Isla nodded. "They were but don't talk about Kelly like that. She is genuinely nice." Alyssa bit the inside of her lip. "What? The woman literally hasn't done anything wrong to me ever so why should I be mad?" Alyssa thought about it for a second and nodded. "So are you and Charles a thing now?" Isla choked on her drink at the question. "No? Why not?"

"Well he said he wanted to get to know me better." Isla said quietly. "You've been hanging out with him everyday, he has been taking care of you like Max never has and you two had the sex-"
"The sex?"
"The sex Isla! You two are honestly the stupidest people I have ever met!" Alyssa ended. Isla just looked at her friend blankly. What was she supposed to reply to that? "Just call him and talk for the love of God. He's a genuinely nice guy Isla, don't let this one go." Isla watched as her friend walked out of the apartment without saying another word. The second she was out of sight, Isla fell to her knees. She had to call Charles. She loved him, she didn't care if she was going to rush it because her and Max knew each other two years before they dated and now look at them, broken up. It didn't matter how quickly they fell in love, its how long they are willing to keep it up and for Isla, she was willing to keep it up forever.

She reached for the phone, but the inanimate object must have read her mind because there it went ringing. She picked it up quickly. "Hello?" she asked, urgency dripping from her voice. "It's Max." Her shoulders drooped in disappointment. "What is it?" she asked. "Isla, this is going to be weird I know but," he paused. "What Max? What's going to be weird?" Max couldn't physically speak. "I can't say it. You'll reach through the phone and slap me." He said. "Max! Just tell me already!"
"Isla, I still love you!" Isla froze in shock of his words. "I know I should love Kelly, she's my girlfriend but you haven't gotten off my mind since I saw you with Charles." Isla's hand became shakey. "Isla? Say something!" She pressed the end call button and placed her phone onto the table. All that pain, all that hurt for nothing. Max was undoubtedly hurt by Isla just hanging up, it was rude but she didn't know what other way to take it so she just hung up, hoping she felt less guilty but no, it only built up.

She felt this unbareable pain in her chest for not knowing what was worse; being broken, or breaking someone else. Maybe it was breaking herself that hurt the most.
