Months had gone by since Isla and Charles spoke. Neither one even looking at the other. The only time Isla saw Charles was when she was watching the races and the only time Charles heard Isla, she was either on the radio or on the TV and tonight was no different. He switched on an American talk show and was taken back. He felt a pain in his chest seeing her smiling, walking over to the interviewer as she had just been introduced. He knew her new album had come out, he listened to it. He looked for any clues about who the hell it might be about, jealous out of his mind about it. Lando was seeming as the best option since those two had been hanging out a lot recently.
"So Isla, the new album is out. It's called Romance and we all want to know, who is it about?" the interviewer asked. Isla felt a little prick to her heart as thee memories of Charles came flooding in. "Well, I was talking with someone and I really, really liked them. I would even go as far as to say love and then, basically we just drifted apart and this album is the story of that." Isla replied. "You mean Max Verstappen?" the interviewer asked, arching a brow. "No, no. I already wrote songs about him and we've moved on from that now so it's not about him."she replied through a smile. "It's great you're on the best of terms because you have the most adorable little daughter together. What's her name?" Isla felt a beaming smile on her face. "Lara. She's almost two now." A collective 'awe' came from thee audience as they showed pictures of her on screen. "It seems like you really get along with formula one drivers." the interviewer joked. Charles laughed quietly. "Tell me about it." he muttered. "It seems like formula one drivers get along with me. The interview continued on, talking about each song, her personal life, the standard interview really for her really.
She walked backstage to change into her performing outfit for her newest song My Oh My. As she changed, she remenised about what the song was about, bitting down on her lip as the sinful thoughts came into her mind. Charles stared down at his phone, fighting whether or not he should text her since she would more than likely be getting ready to perform after the next celebrity was interviewed. He opened up her old WhatsApp and typed a simple message. Isla on the other hand looked down at her phone buzzing. Who on earth was texting them at this hour? It's was nearly three in the morning in England and in Monaco it was nearly four. She turned her phone over and gulped upon looking at the name Charles. She opened it up and read the simpler two letter word of "hi". She texted him back of course.
Why hello there. What are you doing up this early?
She watched as itt came up he was typing.
I'd like to know the same for you. No, I'm joking. I know you're in America right now.
Are you watching the show?
Of course I am
I always watch shows when you're on themIsla gulped again. She just had to know if this was true.
How is Alyssa?
Once again, it came up that he was typing but it was taking what seemed to be a lifetime beforree he finally sent it.
She's good.
She felt that all too familiar pain in her chest. This time she was willing to admit it was heartbreak. What else could it be? Seeing your best friend finally be with some Prince Charming.
Just good?
Well we have of course been talking but nothing more.
Between you and me she can get quite annoyingThat's just plain rude
She slumped back in her chair, looking at herself in the mirror. "You know you can talk to me if you want to." She smiled lightly at the voice behind her. "I have too much to talk about." she replied. "Then talk. I'm willing to listen." Over the last seven months or so, Lando has been the go to guy, helping her through everything going on. He helped her and he helped Lara too. "It's Charles. He's been tallking with Alyssa the past few months. Apparently they've been taking it slow." Lando knew her pain. She was meant to be with Charles by now but that massive argument stopped it from happening. It created trust issues for her and he was lucky enough to be one of the people that she trusted. "The fact that he would wait for his one night stand but not mee kind of hurts, I'm not going to lie but what can I do?" Lando looked at her with pity. She was hurting and hurting bad. He could tell this by the fake smile perched on her face and her eyes already threatening to cry. "Isla, don't cry." he said getting up to go over to her. "The mascara was expensive." he told her, earning a laugh and genuine smile from her. "Where would I be without you?" she asked. "I don't know. I'd imagine your life would be quite boring." Isla quickly skimmed through her life so far. It was anything but boring. "I don't think you know me well enough then Mr Norris." she chuckled. "Ms Abascal? You're on now." Isla let out a sigh and turned to Lando. "How do I look?" she asked. "Ten out of ten." Lando smiled.
Isla left the building after taking photos with fans and such. She hopped into the black suv that brought her there and relaxed, absolutely worn out. Isla looked beside her and smiled down at baby Lara in a baby seat. "How is my little baby girl doing?" she cooed. Lara babbled back at her and began playing with the blanket she had. Isla went back through her texts with Charles but one moment between them that she saw was vital to what Charles had said before. She quickly went to her call log and typed in Charles number and waited for him to answer, thankfully he did. "Hello?" She smiled at the sound of the Monegasque on her phone. "Charles, if you really have loved me the second you saw me, what was I wearing?" Charles thought to himself for a minute. "Oh wow. Just straightt to the point. Blue denim jeans, a black shirt, a blazer- no Red Bull jacket, heels, earrings and a hat." Isla held her breath. He was spot on. "I was listening to your album by the way." A shiver ran down her spine. "Really? What did you think?"
"It was beautiful. I loved all the delicate harmonies and just the mixture of everything. I listened to it when I was driving up to Paul Ricard the other day." Isla smiled a little. "Lando is a very lucky man." It pained Charles a little bit to say it. "What? They aren't about Lando and besides, he's like my best friend. I didn't even know him when my album was being written." Charles was a little bit confused. "So if it isn't about Lando, it isn't about Max, it's about-" he cut himself off as the realisation finally settled in. "Listen, they're all about you. Every single one, every last letter pronounced is about you. Living Proof is about the day you came and made me breakfast. Used To This is about us walking down by the beach. Señorita is about that stupid pet name you gave me for a while. I love when you called me that. Every single one except from Should've Said It is about you Charles and they won't ever not be about you." Charles didn't know how to react to that. It absolutely baffled him. An uncomfortable silence grew amongst the pair. Charles was first to break it though. "Do you still feel that way?" he asked.
"Unfortunately no. Well, I don't think so." He saw it coming, he really did. "And besides, you've got Alyssa now. You'll both be very happy together, I promise you that." Charles furrowed his eyebrows. Is this what she thought he was up to. "You know we aren't together right? We are talking yes but she's also in love with some other guy." he explained. "Really? Who?" Charles bit his lip wondering if he should or not. "Well, I promised her I wouldn't say." Isla laughed. "Oh please! You promised me you would wait for me and here we are." she joked. "And I'm still waiting princesse." Her heart melted being called that again. "Oh please just tell me? Pretty please?"
"Okay fine, she likes Lando." Isla's head slowly turned to the direction of her British friend beside her. "Oh really now?" Lando knotted his brows in complete and utter confusion. "Well thank you for that information." she grinned. "Isla?" She hummed in response. "I can't stop thinking about you. Even when I'm not thinking about anything, I know you're always in my mind somewhere." Isla's facial expression softened. "I always try to pass the night with someone different, just talking and hanging out but they aren't anything when I compare them to you." she turned quickly to Lando and whispered 'no offence' which he nodded to. "So I guess I'll see you in Monaco when I get back?" she asked hopefully.
"You will and I'll make sure of it princesse." Her smile grew even wider. "Oh and princesse?"
"Yes?" she asked. "I'm sorry. I really, really am." Isla took in his words and practically analysed them. The way he said it was genuine and the tone of voice was almost croaky. "I'm sorry too Charles." A comfortable silence grew between them. "This might be bad timing, you know over the phone but would you possibly be mine now?" Charles asked as he fiddled with a random piece of paper. Isla felt her heart skip a beat. "Absolutely! I never thought you'd ask!" Lando heard it in her excitement that her and Charles have probably made up and maybe even officially started dating but he couldn't be for sure.He waited until Isla put her phone down to ask her which came surprisingly quickly. "So, Happily Ever After?" he asked. Isla smiled softly at him. "Yes Lando,"
My Happily Ever After.
