Historia could hear their rambling outside. She felt nervous and scared to see her friends again. It's been months since they last saw each other at the orphanage, she didn't know what to expect. Daily routines are different for them now, while Historia needed to deal with sorting out paperworks throughout the day, the soldiers were out with their own activities.
'Will it be awkward?'
Historia clenched her fists as she stared at her own reflection in the window, waiting for the doors to open up. As soon as she heard the sound of doors opening, she immediately turned around, a smile plastered on her face.
'Looks like I didn't have to fake one after all...'
"It's good to see all of you again." Historia nods her head ever so slightly, signalling them to step forward. After reaching one meter close to her, the soldiers immediately placed their left hand on theor backs and fheir right hand to their hands, afterwhich they bowed down to her majesty.
Historia blushed at the formalities. "You don't have to be so formal!" She gushed, moving her hands around as if to emphasize the need for them to stop bowing down to her.
"You're still the queen, we must show our respect." Armin replied, lifting his head up to face her. "By the way we brought you a snack from the city."
Still in a kneeling position, Armin reaches in one of the pockets of his coat for the snack he stored for the queen.
"Your majesty, would you like to accept this caramel apple?" Armin stretches his arm out to Historia, showcasing the caramel apple on his hand.
Historia bursts into a fit of laughter, clutching her stomach with both of her arms.
"This looks like a proposal. Are you trying to imply something Armin?" Historia teased.
"P-please don't misunderstand!" Armin stuttered, realizing the situation he has placed himself in.
"I'm kidding!" Historia smiled, carefully taking the caramel apple from his hand. "I really appreciate this...thank you so much everyone."
"Can we stand up now?" Connie asked, breaking the sweet atmosphere.
"Of course!" Historia offered her hand to help Armin up.
"Thanks to this, I'll have some sugar in me to keep me up from the boring lectures later."
"There's no need to thank me, it was Ere-" Armin's sentence was cut off since Eren dragged him to away.
Historia notices the yellow thing on Eren's hand, she lifts her eyebrow in curiosity.
'What is that?'
"What is it Eren?" Armin asked, pulling away from Eren's grip.
"I just think that we need to occupy the seats now before the other officials arrive." Eren replied.
Armin knew there was something else bothering Eren, but as much as he wanted to know what it was, he couldn't read Eren's expression.
In that moment, the doors burst open once again revealing Commander Dot Pixis of the Garrison Regiment, Commander Nile Dawk of the Military Police Regiment, and the Commander in Chief of the Three Regiments, Dhalis Zachary.
"Are we late?" Commander Pixis asked with a playful smirk on his face.
Historia's smile quickly evaporated, replaced with a serious look on her face. "You arrived just in time."
"That's a relief." Commander Pixis laughed lightly.
Historia takes a seat at the head of the table, with Zachary to her right, and Pixis to her left. Hange and Levi were seated across each other, with Hange next to Zachary and Levi next to Pixis. Eren, Armin, and Mikasa were seated on Hange's side to the left while Jean, Connie, and Sasha were seated on Levi's side to the right.
"So why did you request this meeting Commander in Chief?" Historia asked.
"Your majesty, we would like to inform you that we are ready to send scouts out to see the ocean." Zachary answered.
"Is that true?" Historia turned to her left to ask Hange. She couldn't hide the excitement in her voice. She coughed lightly and asked again. "I mean, is it truly safe to send scouts out to see the ocean? We don't know how far or how many titans might be present at that distance."
Hange nodded. "It's true your majesty. We've surveyed the area enough to know that it is safe to send our scouts."
"So when will the expedition begin?"
"As soon as you give the signal your majesty. " Hange answered.
"Will I be able to go as well?" Historia wanted to see the ocean too, although there is a very little chance that they would allow her to travel so far, she still wanted to try.
"We can't risk your safety." Levi answered. "You're no longer a scout, you're the queen. Rember that."
"But Commander Hange just said it's safe for-"
"Historia, please understand." Eren cuts her off.
Armin nudges him on the side, "Address her properly." He whispered to Eren.
"I... I understand my duty." Historia said with a defeated sigh. Out of all the people to oppose her, she didn't expect Eren at all. "Then I guess you can start your expedition next week, I will make sure to give you enough budget to prepare for it."
"Thank you, your majesty." Hange replied.
"What else is there to report?" Historia asked, brushing off the loose strand of hair that fell off her braid.
"Financial reports for the cost of repairs in Wall Maria." Pixis replied.
Historia glanced at the scouts and noticed the bored looks of Jean, Connie, and Sasha.
"You guys can leave if you want to." Historia told them. "The room left fo this has some snacks prepared."
Sasha immediately stood up and did a 90 degree bow. "Thank you Queen Historia."
The rest of the scouts follow her, leaving behind Levi, Hange, Pixis, and Zachary to accompany the queen.
Before closing the door, Eren turns to face them one last time. "Will you be joining us after?" He asked, his eyes staring right into Historia's and no one else.
"I will." Historia answered, a small smile forming in her lips.
Eren nods then closes the door. Hange observed the scene carefully, a bubble of suspicion rising in her chest.
'Interesting...'
