"Hurry up and get your breakfast!"
As soon as the guard yelled his order, Tsukishima darted his eyes back towards the man to give him a sharp glare. His mind was brewing with a dark storm as Tsukishima visualises himself beating the crap out of the guard. Tsukishima understood that this was a prison and he was nothing more but a prisoner trapped within these bricked walls, but that was not an excuse to treat him so roughly. He was still a human being that deserves respect...
"Didn't you hear me? I said move it, newbie! Or you'd rather starve all day?" The guard yelled again.
Tsukishima held his glare for another second before turning his head away towards the cafeteria. As soon as he faced forward, his eyes widened in surprise by the large number of eyes staring back at him. The loud chatter had long died down and an awkward silence filled the space. Apparently, the commotion early was loud enough to grab everyone's attention.
Shit, everyone is staring at me. Calm down, just act cool.
Feeling uneasy and uncomfortable, Tsukishima gripped the hem of his jumpsuit and took a deep breath before slowly making his way across the room, towards the queue. There was already a line of men in front of him, all holding onto a grey metal tray as they waited for their food. Tsukishima bent down to grab the same tray and stood behind a random man. As he waited in line, the atmosphere in the cafeteria slowly began to burst into life again as chatter and whispers filled the room. While there were a few who didn't bother to take a second glance and resumed minding their own business, there were some nosy people that can't keep their mouth shut.
"Man, did you see that blondie?" A tall man with an undercut bleached blonde hair asked his friend beside him.
"Hmm yeah, looks like we have another new kid in our block." His friend answered as he eyed the blondie's back.
"Jeez, another new kid? Gosh, can this place get any crowder?" Another man within their circle sighs and continues his meal.
Tsukishima shut his eyes as he tried to block off all the whispers behind him. Damn it, he didn't want to grab so much attention from the other prisoners there. More or else on his first day in the prison. Behind his shut eyes, Tsukishima could still feel the curious eyes staring intensely at him.
Just ignore them. Just ignore the-
"Next!"
Tsukishima snapped his eyes open to face a frowning old lady in a white-stained apron. Her tired dull eyes stared at him for a second, before she focused back on her main task.
When we think of prison food, we tend to envision the stereotypical images often shown in movies or tv shows: The horrendous pulp of soggy rice, a side of raw chopped vegetables and a bowl of murky brown soup on a metal grey tray. Well true enough, that was exactly what Tsukishima was seeing on his filled tray.
"You got a problem with the food?" His bewildered expression must have caught the lady's attention.
"Huh? O-oh well erm..."
"I don't wanna hear it. You eat what you get, kid." The lady cut him off. "Not happy? Well, suck it up because you ain't no choice."
Tsukishimai was baffled by her words. What did he expect anyway? Seeing that there was a slim chance of complaining, Tsukishima grudgingly grabbed his tray and muttered a soft thanks. Avoiding the gazes of others, the young male looked around the room and decided to settle on an empty table located at the far corner of the cafeteria. At least it allows him to seclude himself from the other prisoners there.
