Dean could read Castiel like a book by now, and it was very easy for him to sense when he was in pain. He had been for the last couple of days, and it kept Dean on edge. Cas had kept a bottle of advil at his bedside since he had undergone the surgery to restore his sight and his level of pain was apparent, considering the number of times Dean had caught Cas tossing back another pill.
Twice before, Dean had seen that same, glassy eyed look while talking to Cas, and it frightened him.

"I'm afraid, " The Doctor began, packing his hands together as he stared solely at Dean, he hadn't the heart to try and make eye contact with Castiel.

-----------
For days, Castiel would not speak, the bags under his eyes grew heavier, and he refused to eat. His skin became even more pale, and Dean had given up.
Until one day, when he was out picking up some burgers, in an attempt to lift Castiel's spirits, Dean passed a tiny little pawn shop, and an idea sparked. But his proposal never quite returned Castiel back to normal, and he was always a different person after the incident occurred, though the two managed to sort it out in time to purchase a small log cabin outside of Lawrence.
