Eve stared at me blankly, her pale blue-grey eyes still smudged with last nights mascara.
"Your what now?"
"My boss." I said with a light shrug of my shoulders.
Eve propped herself up on her cushions and leaned into me while I stroked her hair. Oh boy, she must have been feeling really rough.
"Tell me everything."
"There isn't much to tell to be honest, we had an amazing night together, he bought me the most delicious breakfast in the morning and then he offered me an interview at Stone Edge Industries."
"Please tell me you're going to go for it!"
I shuffled slightly, still caressing Eve's long blond locks.
"Yeah... Of course. I guess I'm just worried that-"
"That everyone will think you got the job just by screwing the boss?"
"You didn't have to say it so bluntly, you know..." I muttered, the realization of her words hit me like a freight train.
"I'm just being honest. That's why we're friends, right? I'm the bold, brash and blunt one and you're the sweet and quiet one. We just fit together."
"Do you really think that people are going to look at me and assume I'm sleeping with the boss and that's how I got a job there?"
"April, sweetie, people talk all the time. It's just what humans do. You have to rise above it, and besides - you are sleeping with the boss."
"Oh, please. That was a one time thing. We were just two strangers at a bar."
"Stop being so dramatic, that man is smitten with you and you know it."
I chewed my lower lip and looked at my nails, debating what colour would be suitable for an interview at a very illustrious company. Eve took my hand in hers and gave it a gentle squeeze as she got up from my lap.
"You literally have nothing to lose and everything to gain. What are you so afraid of?"
That he's only offering me an interview because we slept together. That I'll be rejected and never see him again. That I'm afraid that no other man would ever compare to how he made me feel last night?
"You're right. I'm going to do it."
"That's my girl! We'll have to make sure you look the part. Equal parts sexy and bad-ass business woman."
I laughed and nudged Eve playfully, secretly imagining her vision.
"Alright, I'll let you dress me up."
Eve clapped her hands with glee and started talking about shoes and perfumes, but truth be told, I was fazing out. My hangover was starting to kick in, and while I could still feel Ashton's touch, there was nothing I wanted more in this life than a large, extra-cheese pizza with a side of chicken wings.
