Xavier's POV
I walked into the boys locker room, breathing hard as sweat glistened my forehead. I had just gotten done running a mile in under six minutes and I was exhausted. After last night, my body couldn't handle much more. I was hungry, having not eaten all day. Thank God this was the last class of the day.
I walked over to my locker and grabbed my stuff then headed for the shower. I tried not to look at any one of the guys as they stripped and changed around me. Head hung low, I closed the shower curtain behind me before I stripped of my clothes and began to change. I could hear the guys talking and laughing around me but I didn't join in. I didn't want to bring attention to myself. But it seemed today was my lucky day.
I had just barely finished pulling down my shirt and zipping my pants up when the curtain got ripped back.
Lo and behold stood none other than Brendan Scott. To say Brendan was attractive was an understatement. He had blond hair that fell in front of his face in the most adorable way. He had sparkling sea green eyes and a face that belonged in a magazine. And as he stood there, a smirk on his face, his upper body bared, I couldn't help but sneak a peek at his chest. Brendan was muscular, but not overly so. He should be a male model, I thought.
"Wipe the damn drool off your face, Kingsley."
My eyes snapped up to Brendan's. Oh, did I forget to mention that I hated him?
"I would if there was anything worth drooling about," I replied, clenching my fists by my sides. Brendan had made my life living hell since my freshman year of high school. We had been best friends as kids, that is until we got to the ninth grade and I decided to out myself to him. He didn't exactly take it the way I'd hoped he would.
Brendan smirked. "I think you ought to start changing with the girls. I'm not so comfortable having a fag watch me while I change."
My jaw clenched and for a moment, I envisioned myself punching him in the face. It wouldn't be the first time I'd hit him.
"Watch yourself, Brendan. I'm not in the mood," I said, my voice cold as ice to let him know I meant business.
"You know, there's this church up north were they cure people like you. You ought to go up there. In fact, I'd personally fund your trip." By this time, some of the other guys had crowded around us, watching Brendan humiliate me. "Anything for you to get better right?"
"Shut the fuck up, Brendan!" I said, trying to push past him, but he blocked me.
"No, you listen up. This school doesn't need people like you gay-ing up the place."
Brendan continued to speak but in that moment all I saw was red. Without warning, I drew my arm back and punched him in the face. To say that I was angry was a bit of an understatement.
Brendan, getting over the shock of my punch, also drew back and punched me in the gut. And then it was on. I was so sick and tired of him putting me down every damn day just because I was gay. I hit him with all the force that was in me. Even though my body ached in protest when I moved, I didn't hesitate to give him everything I had.
I punched his nose and heard the satisfying crunch as his nose broke and blood began to spew. He got in a few punches also, splitting my bottom lip and hitting my eye. My vision was hazy but I kept swinging. I heard someone scream for the teacher and the next thing I knew, I was being pulled away.
My body slammed against the locker and I was face to face with the coach. He was pissed.
"What happened?" he asked, looking around the locker room. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Brendan push himself off the floor.
"He fucking attacked me!" Brendan said. My hands curled into fists again.
"I didn't attack you!" I cried out.
"I told him to stop being a fag and stare at all the guys. It's fucking disgusting! And he just attacked me!"
"That's not what happened!"
"Enough!" Coach said. "Xavier, report to the office."
"What about him?!" I sputtered.
"I'll deal with him myself."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He hadn't even waited to hear my side. I jerked away from the locker and grabbed my stuff, muttering as I left the locker room, Brendan looking after me with a smirk on his face.
I didn't go to the principal's office like Coach told me to. I ran through the halls, teachers and students alike looking startled to see a figure clad in black and covered in blood running through the hallways. I headed outside and looked around the parking lot before I spotted him.
Skylar stood beside his car, an unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth. He was talking to some girl, but he looked up as I approached. There was a smile on his face but it quickly disappeared when he saw the blood on my face.
"I gotta go," he told the girl. "Talk to you later," he said before turning around and heading to the driver's seat. I looked over at the girl, not really noticing much about her other than her height. She was short, barley coming up to my chest. I shouldered past her and got into the passenger seat, I'd barely even closed the door when Skylar took off.
"Damn Sky, speed much?" I asked sarcastically as I dragged my arm across my face, blood coming off on my arm.
"What the fuck happened?" Skylar growled, looking pissed off.
"Oh, the usual. Brendan being an annoying asshole."
Skylar sighed and continued to drive, reaching one hand down into his pocket and grabbed his lighter before he quickly lit his cig and began to smoke. We spent the ride in silence until we got to his house. He got out of the car, slamming the door shut. I followed suit. We walked into the house, Skylar calling out for his mom.
"In the kitchen!" she replied.
"Xavier's here! We're going upstairs!"
Skylar led me to his bathroom first. He locked the door behind him, then grabbed a rag and soaked it in water.
"He busted your lip," Skylar noted. I didn't move as he dabbed at the blood on my face and hands until I was cleaned off. Then he reached in the medicine cabinet behind the mirror and shook out a couple Tylenol and gave them to me. I swallowed them dry. "Come on."
Skylar pulled me into his room, locking the door behind him and leaving the lights off.
"You have homework?" he asked. I nodded. "You gunna do it?" I shook my head.
Skylar lay back on the bed, patting the spot beside him. I went to him and laid beside him. He curled his arm around me and held me.
I loved Sky. I loved cuddling with him. With his jet black hair and blue eyes, Skylar was a knockout. He was tall and thin, but toned. He had plugs in his ears and he had his eyebrow, lips, and septum pierced. Skylar was everything I could ever wish for. He was sweet and gentle and he took care of me, and whether through conventional methods or not, Skylar made me happy. He was also bisexual, though he was more into guys than girls.
Skylar and I had been friends since freshman year when Brendan outed me to the rest of the world. Skylar had stood up for me during one of Brendan's ridicules. It was afterward that Skylar had told me that he was a closeted bisexual. He still was. Not even his own parents knew. But ever since then, we'd been best friends. He was the only one who knew all of my secrets. He was the only one that I trusted. The only one I loved.
But we weren't together. And it was all my fault.
