Chapter 1 The Burn
The fire left her blind in her right eye, if it wasn’t for Uncle Peter who got her out and shielded her from the burning flames she would have died for sure. Six years ago she would have been running around her pretty baby brown eyes would wonder around admiring everything in sight. Yet now all she had left from those days were one baby brown eye and ghostly grey right eye. Burn marks that started from her right hip to the middle of her thigh remained as a reminder of that night. She was only ten when it happened, no ten year old should have to suffer the way she had to. She still had nightmares of that night hearing her friend Cora Hale scream for her mother and the rest of her family. Cora was trapped on the other side of the house with her mother, Uncle Peter had tried to get to her but the flames where too much. Instead he grabbed her protecting her from the flames with his own body as he made his way to the underground tunnel.
6 years later
Serena McCall had survived that day and since then she was scarred by the flames, she was forced to get a Seeing Eye dog. She needed her older twin brother Scott to help her do certain things, she felt like nothing would ever be the same. Until that fateful night in the woods.
It was late Sunday night when Serena's ears twitched at the sound of the creeking wood of the front porch. She got up calling her seeing eye dog named Midnight, the beautiful female Rottweiler stood up tall stretching before sniffing the air. She had slick black fur with small brown markings here and there. Serena bit her lip nervously who could be outside her home at a time like this. Midnight helped guide her through the dark of her room to her older twin brother's room. "Scotty" she called opening the door to his room. "Did you hear that?" She asked her brother seeing him stand up to grab the bat. He nodded shushing her telling her to follow him down stairs.
She nodded grabbing onto Midnight's harness walking behind her brother. She bit her nails noticing Scott tighten his grip on there mother's old wooden bat. As the porch creeked again they had finally reached the front door. Midnight growled crouching down getting ready to attack. "1...2...3" Scott whispered before pushing the the door open screaming about to whack the intruder. "Stop!" I heard, it sounded like Stiles. What is he doing here doesn't he know how late it was and on top of that tomorrow was the first day in school, did he not care.
Midnight growled barking at the boy hanging upside down from the roof of her porch. "Down girl it's only Stiles" She stated to the growling dog, at her command Midnight relaxed. She smiled petting her sweet dog ignoring Stiles and her brother. I swear she thought those boys never stopped doing stupid things. She sighed when she heard something about a dead body, she knew then that Stiles had been listening to his father's police scanner again. This was sure to end in disaster.Running her fingers through her wild long curly hair as she let Midnight guide her back to the room. She looked at her room and then at Scott's deciding to sleep in her brother's room. She hoped nothing bad would happen to him out there she knew his asthma was just as bad as her own. Still she trusted Stiles enough to watch out for her big brother. Slipping off her red slippers she began to undress taking off her Jean shorts and her tank top before walking into her brother's closet. Looking through his shirts she found a black long sleeve lacrosse shirt that said Becon Hills on it and through it on. The shirt stopped mid thigh exposing some of the long burn mark on her thigh that started at her hip she sighed rubbing the mark closing her eyes ignoring the memories that were trying to surface. She shuck her head supressing the dumb thoughts that came to her head. Smiling she noticed that the sleeves where to long on her, she couldn't help but just laugh playing with the sleeves like if they were noodles. She grabbed some of Scott's socks pulling them on before sliding into Scott's queen bed. She patted the bed calling Midnight to jump up and lay with her. Midnight jumped from the floor onto the bed cuddling next to her master. She knew her master must be cold so she moved as close as she could to give her master some warmth.
Slowly Serena began to fall sleep her face nested in Midnight's fur and her wild long brown curls spread across the bed. She was wrapped tightly in the dark blue comforter. It had been almost 3 hours since Scott left with Stiles and he had still not returned his sister laid sleeping in his bed waiting for him. Midnight's nose twitched as a familiar scent filled the air Scott was home but something was wrong she smelled blood. Midnight nuzzled Serena trying to wake her licking her cheek repeatedly. Serena groaned rubbing her face pushing Midnight's muzzle away saying "What is it girl? Is Scott home?" Midnight barked in response to her master's question. Serena quickly got up grabbing her left side groaning in pain Scott was hurt she thought just as Scott walked through the door. Hearing her brother moan in pain as he pulled off his shirt examining his lower left side of his back. Serena rushed to her brother's side worry written all over her face as she asked him "What happen are you okay?" Scott groaned replying "I got bitten by a wolf, can you help me clean it up." "Oo Scotty let me see. How bad does it hurt" She said softly as poked around the wound using her only good eye to examen the bite mark. "Ouch Serena" Scott whined frowning looking at her. "Relaxe Scotty I know it hurts I can feel it remember" She replied frowning looking closely at the wound it looked semi deep any deeper and he might have needed stitches. She hissed as she stared at the fang marks in her brother's lower back, she could feel the pain her brother was going through. She groaned pushing down on the wound as more blood flowed out, they had a strange twin bond her and Scott. When ever he is hurt she could feel his pain and he could feel her's. She stopped pulling up her shirt to see a faint bite mark on her lower back just like Scott's only difference was that her's wasn't bleeding. "Scott it looks really bad but I can fix it for you" She whispered massaging his back to try and ease the pain as she told Midnight to go fetch the first aid kit from the bathroom. "Let me see your back" Scott replied "I'm so sorry it's my fault your hurt now too" He continued turning around to see his sister. She was wearing his lacrosse shirt from last year, looking down he could see the damaged skin on her thigh that was left behind from the fire. He could share his sister's pain but only to such extent. He remembered hearing her cries at night at the hospital and feel the emotional pain his sister was feeling. She had survived being burned alive and he felt just as much pain as she did. He had been with Stiles that day when he felt a burn sensation on his right thigh his right eye began hurting and his vison in that eye was blurring. He knew she was hurt he always knew when his sister was hurt. He to had scars on his thigh but they were very faint while her's were long and deep. He ignored the pain in his lower back to tend to his sister turning her around he lifted her shirt seeing the faint traces of the bite mark on her there was no blood and all that was there was a scar. He sighed rubbing his sister's back before pulling down the shirt.
In the mean time she helped Scott pull off the rest of his shirt she would sew it up for him later. She grabbed Scott's hand pulling him into the bathroom sitting him on the toliet grabbing the first aid kit from Midnight's jaws. She grabbed a damp towel cleaning around the excess blood before pulling out the hydrogen peroxide sterilizing the wound. Grabbing some gauze she wrapped the wound and taped it down using medical tape. Once she was done she continued massaging Scott's back telling him "Relaxe I finished patching it up but be more careful okay big brother." Scott nodded leaning in to her touch as she undid the knots his back. She sighed getting up from the floor to wash her hands and wiped the rest of the blood off his back. "Come on Scott lets go to bed we have school tomorrow remember." She said cleaning up the blood and the first aid kit before putting everything away in the drawer. She grabbed Midnight as she walked back to the bed. She picked up Scott's bloody shirt heading down stairs to the washing machine. She asked Midnight to lead the way, the dog barked taking the lead. Her mother was working the night shift so she didn't have to worry about explaining this to her. Scrubbing the blood off the shirt she quickly through it into the washing machine. Rubbing her eyes she let Midnight guide her back up stairs to Scott's room. She opened the door to see her twin already in bed asleep she smiled jumping in bed next to him. She patted the bed calling Midnight, the dog jumped onto the bed laying down next to her. Scott rolled over wrapping his arms around his little sister cuddling her. Serena smiled snuggling into her brother's warmth as well as cuddling with Midnight. She slowly closed her eyes falling into a deep slumber safely held in the arms of her protectors Scott and Midnight.
